Just Whitney

This cd is proof that Whitney Houston continues to develop her artistry in many different musical styles. This work just continues the inspirational journey in her vocal odyssey. Listen closely (with headphones, if you must) to her mature development. "Tell Me No" is a powerhouse vocal that teems with drama. The guitar solo near the finale is awesome. There is an originality and complexity in the vocal arrangement of "Things You Say" that surpass anything Whitney has sung in the past. This song's instrumental composition defies being categorized in any one genre. The duet "My Love" that Whitney and Bobby sing together is fascinating. In addition, there are many singers that add to the brilliant mix of voices. This cd has the funkiness found in "My Love Is Your Love", Whitney's previous album. But this time there also are the grand diva ballad numbers which we all love to hear Whitney sing. Two of these great ballads are "Try It On My Own" and "You Light Up My Life". "Dear John Letter" is a wild number on many different levels. It's full of rhythmic tones. This is a "don't miss" kind of song! "Unashamed" is a moving, soulful number. It has a brilliantly complex vocal which Whitney sings flawlessly! Whitney Houston is one of the most prolific vocalists of our generation. It is unfortunate that some people want to judge her artistry based on her personal life. However, there is one synonomous thread, and that is her unbridled passion for that which she pursues. Perhaps a blessing and at the same time, a curse, with our support Whitney will hopefully overcome her demons. It would be fantastic to see her return with a new cd of musical journeys and a worldwide tour that only a diva of her magnitude can produce.

I never really understood why this album was pretty much passed over or looked down upon. To me, it showed another side of Whitney - moving away from the ballads into a more urban zone. Granted, she had been bashed about, (almost to the point of non stop), by the press, so perhaps this was her way of showing the world she had taken off the gloves and was ready to strike back. This time around, Clive Davis did not hand pick the songs for Whitney to sing. Frankly, I feel it was a good move on Whitney's part. She had a lot of pain and troubles in her life and this was her way of expressing it. And at the time, Whitney had a great deal to say; all with good reason. The bonus track on the CD rocks and the DVD is totally awesome.

Just Whitney. Is an amazing album. It has variety songs. Songs you could sing along and dance to. Ms. Whitney Houston was and will remain one of the most fanomanl singers. As a Gospel and R&B/POP singer we all miss her dearly. Buyers and or fans of Whitney Houston if you haven't buy this CDs you should. It has many good songs wish brings good and happy memories from her happy life on the early Millenium. I have all of her CDs and old LPs and I got to say its a previlege to have her collections. Her songs will be in my present as they've always been. Whitney Elizabeth Houston will always remain in our heart. God Bless her and R.I.P. Janel. A.Tejada

I like this CD because it has a few special moments on it where Whitney tries to tackle the types of songs that made her a superstar. One such example is TRY IT ON MY OWN.

Not sure how I missed this one. Songs I had not heard before and I love it!!

I truly appreciated this CD. In my opinion Whitney's best work. It was a shame that it did not get the advertising she needed. This could have brought her another award nomination and a possible win. Her latest CD is good, but this one was just dynamic. Remind of the young Whitney we all love.

Solo son 10 y un remix 11 canciones en total pero son grandiosas Canciones movidas como Whatchulookinat, One Of Those Days y Love That Man. Grandes baladas como On My Own (Try It On My Own) & You Light Up My life.

Dieses Comeback-Album nach Jahren der bösen Gerüchte um Drogenkonsum und Magersucht enthält alles, was Fans und Kenner von ihr erwarten, und überzeugt mit einer guten Mischung aus schnellen Songs mit starken Rhythmen und herzzerreißenden Balladen. Gleich im ersten Track ihres neuen Albums rechnet sie mit der Boulevardpresse ab. Das Stück nennt sich: "Whatchulookinat" und der Name ist Programm: "You got the heart to show the world what I do. Now I'm turnin the cameras back on you. Same Spotlights, the ones who gave me fame tryin' to dirty up Whitneys name." Und auch der Rest der Scheibe räumt mit Gerüchten von einer schwachen, drogenabhängigen Whitney auf: Mit starker Stimme meldet sie sich auf der Bühne der großen Soul-Diven zurück. **********************TRACKLISTE********************************* 1. You Light Up My Life ***************************************************************** Interessant zu hören ist auch "Tell Me No", das als poppige Hymne an ihre großen Songs vor "The Bodyguard" erinnert. Etwas weniger gelungen das Duett mit Ehemann Bobby Brown: die Stimmen klingen abgehackt und kommen nicht voll zur Geltung, was durch eher unromantisch anmutende Beats noch verstärkt wird. Schade, denn vom Titel "My Love" verspricht man sich ein emotionsgeladenes Für und Wieder der beiden großen Stimmen. "On My Own" ist ein richtig schöner Schmuse-Song, der dank Whitneys warm bebender Stimme die Fans dahin schmelzen lassen wird. Hitverdächtig ist auch die Singleauskopplung "One Of Those Days" (9.12.), die von Kevin 'She'kspere' Briggs stammt. Schnellere, explosivere Stücke wie "Dear John Letter" und "Love That Man", das eine Liebeserklärung an Bobby Brown zu sein scheint, gehen mehr in die R'n'B-, denn in die Soulpop-Richtung, was deshalb aber nicht weniger gefallen dürfte. Alles in allem bietet "Just Whitney" eine gute, abwechslungsreiche Mischung mit einigen herausragenden Songs. Die Sängerin mit der fünf-Oktaven Stimme hat noch einmal alles gegeben, so dass man wohl von einem gelungenen Comeback sprechen kann.
