The very best EDC knife
I've carried this knife for years... the photo is of my original red handled unit that I just replaced because I have misplaced it somehow. The knife is super lightweight. It opens very easy yet will not open in your pocket. The blade is serrated so opening boxes is a breeze. It's super inexpensive so if you have to sacrifice it for some reason you haven't lost a days pay. This old one shown had been sharpened many times. I loved it. I miss it. I use it for everything... even opening pull doors so I don't have to touch the door going into a restaurant. Just pull it out of your pocket and pull open the door with the aluminum handle. The new one I just received was the EXACT same knife function and feature wise. It's open on both sides. You can wash it; put it in the dishwasher. To me it's virtually perfect. For less than 40 bucks just get it. You're going to have a new long term relationship! Now, Gerber... please bring back the red!

THE BEST pocket knife I've ever owned
I got my first Gerber Harsey Air Ranger knife about 10 years ago. I returned another Gerber knife I owned to their repair center for repairs (Gerber guarantees all their knives FOR LIFE !!) and they couldn't fix it because it was a discontinued model--so they offered to give me a knife from their current catalog (of equal value) to replace mine. After looking through their catalog, I spotted the Harsey Air Ranger (all metal, with checkered aluminum grips) and I chose it. When it arrived, I didn't know if I liked it or not. It didn't look like any of my other Gerber's, and it was WAY LIGHTER! Gerber's have a nice heft to them, and this one didn't, but I put it in my pocket and hardly noticed it was there. Hmmm, lighter might be better for a pocket knife anyway I thought. The aluminum grips were very light, strong, and checkered like a gunstock. Even when wet, they allow for a good grip. I never baby a knife, (even if it's an expensive one) as I use my knives every day, from cutting cardboard boxes, rope, wires and wood. A knife must earn its keep--if its going to be in MY pocket. My original Air Ranger is still in my pocket, still working every day--just like me. When I've finally sharpened it down to a nub, I'll start using my new one from Amazon--though that probably won't be for a least another 10 years or so. If you're a working man like me, you can't go wrong with a Gerber Air Ranger which was designed by a world class custom knife maker (Bill Harsey). If I could change one thing about the design of this knife, it would be to round off the square edges on the handle, to make it more pocket friendly. I've modified mine with a Dremil Tool, to perfection. It comes in and out of my pocket smoothly, and doesn't wear out the pocket liner on my jeans either. I've uploaded some photos, in case anybody is interested in doing the same. My only beef with this knife is it's now only available in the half-serrated blade style. I prefer a smooth finely honed edge. Serrations are for steak knives and kitchen cutlery. I use a Lansky 3-stone hone to keep mine razor sharp. My blade has the original AUS-8A alloy steel, and you can shave with it. Several years back, on an extended hunting and camping expedition, I actually did just that.

honest, good EDC
Favorite knife. The serrations make cutting cardboard easy, the blade opens easily, one handed, the blade retains its good edge and it's a fine everyday carry. I've bought five or six as gifts - all well received.

This has been a great all purpose knife
UPDATE (2 years): Still working beautifully. I bring this knife with me many places and have used it for a variety of needs (including camping, car repair, around the house fix-it stuff, etc.). I have not done anything to care for the knife in the past two years (no lubricating, no tightening....nothing!), I just occasionally wipe the dirt off it and it still works perfectly just like the day I got it. Don't forget it's still very sharp and has not required sharpening (given I don't use the blade for cutting anything dense or challenging, just cord, cloth, etc.). UPDATE (1 year+): This knife is awesome. I use it multiple times a week and often carry it with me just in case. It's in perfect working order after hundreds of uses over the past year+ and has not required any maintenance. Smooth action and no problems still. I've used it as a screw driver, hammer, and any other weird way you can use a EDC blade as a tool and it keeps going strong. This has been a great all purpose knife. I use it around the house for various tasks and it's come in handy for camping and fishing. It's sharp, reliable, and highly reviewed by many others. I've only owned a few knifes like this in the past so it's difficult for me to compare to the market. But, I would mention that I've had the knife for over 6 months now and have had no issues with anything coming loose (not even a bit). I use the knife almost daily and it feels just as nice as the day I got it. It has a good weighted feel in your hand and seems to be made of solid materials. The knife edge is very sharp and the serrated edge is very useful for fishing and camping purposes. Obviously a purpose specific knife may do some of the jobs I refer to better, but for edc this is a solid blade. Highly recommended.

Great Buy - Easy Open/Close and More
Great knife, thumb tab comes in handy for one handed operation, its lightweight and easy to clip onto any pocket inside without being noticeable or bulging. I carry mine for everyday use as well as an excellent knife when out in the shop or fishing, as I can easily slip it out of my pocket one handed and open it cut it and close it as I often find myself needing my second hand to hold a wire, fishing line, etc. The locking mechanism is easy to unlock to close with one hand as it sticks out ever so slightly, not enough to be a nuisance, but just enough to close. Another great feature is the handle, I have been in wet conditions and still have not lost my grip due to the texture. Definitely recommend this knife, price is great for the quality you receive. PROS Holds edge well lightweight narrow frame great grip easy open and close
