Thank you for the question Daniel. Citicoline helps you feel "locked in" by improving attention, focus, concentration, and motor skills. We thought this would be a great addition to our pre-workout so that while you are pushing hard in your workout, you are always staying focused on the task at hand. The added sugars are for taste. We pride ourselves on using zero artificial sweeteners or flavors, so we added a limited amount of cane sugar to make the product taste delicious. It is a great tasting product with very low sugar at only 4 g total.  Please let us know if you need anything else!
