same size every time
while 3018 cnc machines are not exactly what you might call state of the art, they do function really well as an introduction to all things CAD and CNC. Having the ability to perfectly reach a desired depth to set your zero consistently every single time cannot be underestimated. This z-probe gets straight to the point with no bells or whistles, though to make the best of it you will need to purchase (or borrow) a set of very accurate calipers. I know these are mass produced, but if they came with precise size dimensions in the packaging that would be awesome. Worth every single penny regardless.

Not a Dupont connector
The connector on this probe is one for a dedicated 2 pin connector, and doesn't fit the 0.1" headers on my control board. For all I know, it's right for a Sainsmart control board, but the product photos seem to go out of their way to not show the connector.

Height depends on where on the puck you set the tool
The puck is just very light weight plastic which is not heavy enough to stay put and has to be held in position. It is not spring loaded, so delicate contact of the the tool is essential. The thickness of the puck varies from approximately 13.60 at one side to over 13.7 at the other, so the actual position of the Z axis will depend on where on the puck the tool locates. This might be ok for routing wood, but I would need something much more accurate to milling metals.
