Bosch RA1166 Plunge Router Base

I work with hard woods such as hard rock maple from time to time- this plunge accessory was for setting up a fixed base Bosch 1617EVS to be used as a plunge router also. The plunge base was also setup with Bosch's template follower adapter, and the Bosch template guide part No. RA1111, which is not included in the template guide accessory kit. This combination works very well for deep controlled cuts, one step at a time, highly repeatable, in materials like 1-1/4" maple ply.

This base is a great addition to my router. Fit is great, despite other bad reviews that said the fit can be bad. Our router dropped right in and fits great. The functionality is great. Easy adjustability easy plunge action and the base fits exactly into my router sled.

Some time ago I acquired the 1618 D handle version of this router and have been pleased with that purchase. I recently found myself in need of a plunge router's functionality, so added this base. It does the job, is well constructed, and has several clever features, such as the clear plastic guard that can also be positioned out of the way for changing bits without removing it from the base, thereby minimizing chances for losing it. The turret stops and fine adjustment mechanisms also work smoothly and well, as does the plunge action. The lock lever was easy to reach without removing one's hand from the grip. If I had to whine, I can see two areas for improvement: First, the 1618 comes with a very short cord on the router motor, and it plugs into the D base, which provides a trigger and long cord. Would be nice if this base had the same facility. Second, the markings on the fine adjustment mechanism are raised pointers on a chrome "nut", and can be difficult to see if the light isn't optimum. I'll be applying daubs of paint to mine, suggest Bosch do the same.

I got this as an addition to a Bosch router I have been using. I am impressed with how easy it is to accurately rout wood panels. The plunge base allows easy adjustment for depth of cut and makes it simple to reproduce cuts (assuming you don't move the bit in the collet). I did add a large plexiglass base to the router to make visibility better and to keep the base on top of the wood panel.

My first go at plunge routing and I think this is a very nice base. Easy to operate and adjust and so far works like a charm. One note of interest is that the Bosch 1617EVS router fixed base does not have the same available mounting holes as this plunge base. I went to mount this plunge base onto a Rockler fluting jig and had to drill a new hole pattern while the fixed base bolted right up. Not a huge deal but worth noting. Also if you are looking to buy a router also, get this base in a combo pack with the Bosch router and a fixed base for some cost savings.

A nicely machined router base... as would be expected from a Bosch product. No regrets on this purchase. The router fits in perfectly with no movement. The plunge feature is smooth and predictably accurate.

Buen producto calidad y precio amplio en mucho las funciones del Router mejorando en muchos aspectos en el taller con la herramienta al contar con un accesorio que cuando se compro el Router no contaba con el en un principio el producto es bueno y de calidad.
