Love this movie, a little extra work to figure out how to watch in English w/out subtitles
Really love this movie which was why I paid $20 for a 25 year old movie. I originally had it on laser disc (& still do), but wanted it on DVD again. I had it on DVD from awhile ago but disc started having issues & wouldn't play in one spot. So when that happened I then ordered the reg DVD Euro version (only one avail), which would not play on my DVD player. So my husband was able to get it to play on his computer & copied it to a disc, so I could watch a DVD of the movie. It was terrible. It looked like someone had copied the VHS to a disc & been allowed to sell it on Amazon. So then I found this one & was worried but most people said it would play on their player & that the picture was decent & because it was Blu-ray I was hoping the disc was more durable. Have now had multiple issues with reg DVDs playing fine the previous viewing & then all of the sudden having odd issues & skips, without any manhandling or being left out or scratched or anything, which we haven't had happen YET on a Blu-ray disc. I'm going to give exact instructions for how I got this movie to play in English just in case other people are having the same difficulties. It worked on both of our Blu-ray players this way. 1) trying to do it from the menu (selecting the item to the right of the play button to get languages list ) did not work, it would give the option of English 5.1 but would not 'select' it when I pressed the select button on the controller. 2) my husband found a different way to do it than I did, both ways require for you to start the movie 1st unfortunately, once you get it sorted, you can always hit the back/rewind button to see movie from beginning. So hit the play button (1st one on menu) 3) once the movie has started I hit the pop up/menu button on my Blu-ray remote controller which makes the chapter list come up as well as the language list. Do not select chapter after you change the language, it will mess it up again. Select English 5.1, if they are talking on screen, you will hear it switch to English, then scroll down to the subtitles; don't remember the German words but it looks similar to activate & deactivate, select the de-activate & you should stop seeing the German subtitles. The movie will be playing behind that menu & you can see it. Then hit the pop up/menu button again on your remote to make that menu go away, then use your back or prev button on your remote to back to the beginning of the movie again to watch from the start. Seriously if I hit anything else or tried to go back to the main menu or hit chapter selection from the pop up menu, it would go back to German. Don't do that (unless you want to see it in German). 4) my husband was able to get it to do that the same by starting the movie & hitting the audio button on the Blu-ray player remote then scrolling to English & then turning the subtitles to off. Hope that helps. Try that before returning it. Also if you have more than one Blu-ray player, it might work on one & not the other. Have had that happen on a couple of my DVDs. Just glad this played in my U.S. region Blu-ray player.

Love Split Second
Split Second is one of my most favorite SCI-FI movies of all time. Finally it's available on Prime!! I've purchased the European copies of the film, but I now Sony has made the movie available to the US. Split Second is typical 80's/90's sci-fi/horror movie stuff, it has a campy, looks familiar, alien monster, weapons galore and a tough guy Rambo super cop (Rutger Hauer) hyped up on coffee & chocolates, who takes on the chaos with both barrels. And you add in the super hottie co-heroine (Kim Cattrall, fresh off her role in Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country--another great outstanding sci-fi movie) and you've got a good combination. It has bits of comedy mixed in with the action and horror slasher effects, but it sells on its really good script. It's a B movie yes, but it's one of those underrated B movies that should be elevated in my opinion. Split Second ranks up there with my other favorite SCI-FI 80's undersea horror movie, Leviathan (1989). It's a really good movie. If you haven't seen it and you're a fan of SCI-FI and horror, give it a shot. I think you'll like it.

"We need bigger guns."
The minute I saw this on digital release I bought it. Split second is my favorite trash sci-fi movie from the 90s (1992 release, so think about movies like "Cyborg" and "Commando" for reference). I put it on immediately upon purchase, and like a kid trying to impress the first girl in his room with action figures... I pointed out to my wife that you can tell how old the movie is by the fact that when it came out, they thought 2008 was a solid year to place a "bleak outlook on a distant but not excessively so future" movie in. I digress, this move is old and cheaply made, so if you're looking for some high budget, big action, fast paced, well written work of art... No... Not here. However, if you're the type that likes quirky, middling production quality science fiction movies that have a lot of character, even if the acting is a little stiff at times, then you'll like this. The general premise is that there is an occult-obsessed serial killer on the loose. This "psychotic with the personality of a psychopath" is mutilating innocent victims and taunting the cop who's partner he killed years previously. As the cast grows and their focus tightens, eventually they come face to face with the "monster" they've been pursuing, and being pursued by. Is everything as it seems? You'll have to watch the movie, because as uninspired as the ending is, the trip there is early 90s B-grade excellence. Guide: It's got some breasts, no over the top sex scenes, there is gore, not buckets of it, but it's there, plenty of foul language, quarter century old badly researched pop psychology is prevalent, British humor. I personally give Split Second 5*s. However, I'll point out quickly, this is a movie you either love or hate. There is no real in between.

About time !
I bought the video back in the 90s when it came out. Back then the safest thing to do was either rent it first or see it on HBO, etc. Then if you liked it, buy it. VHS tapes were still a bit expensive. We've always liked Rutger Hauer. Still do, too bad re: his passing. He was great at B-action movies: LadyHawke, Blade Runner, Wanted: Dead or Alive (with Gene Simmons) "Fu#@ the bonus!" - one of the greatest lines in an action movie. My all time favorite of his remains 'Call of the Wild', based on the Jack London novel, narrated by Richard Dreyfus. I found the DVD once, but it wasn't for Region 1.. Still looking for it ... maybe I'll get lucky? I've been trying to find this DVD for several years, but when found, it was way too expensive, even for me. Finally, I found this copy for less than $60. Waited long enough - snapped it up. We watched it the night we got it. My 16 year-old grandson came down for the weekend ... we watched it again. Our son cane down three days later to pick him up. He had liked it on VHS, so we watched it again - on DVD. This is one movie that will wear out. Maybe I should keep an eye out for an extra copy at a reasonable price? Yup.
