This item worked well for 3 uses at about 30 seconds each. The next time I tried to use it it would not turn on. I replaced the batteries with no change. I followed the troubleshooting tips for the device and the trimmer still will not turn on. I am very disappointed that this only worked for a month. Purchase at your own risk.

I've used the Panasonic GN-30 for years, but it was time to buy a new one....I saw this Philips model with the unique cutting head, and thought I would give it a try. It was a few $ less than the GN-30. I've always considered the inexpensive ear/nose trimmers to be disposable - given the price and the cutting blades do get dull after sometime of use. First, the on/off switch is the same as the battery compartment end cap....I kept opening the battery compartment rather than turning the trimmer on. Once I figured that out, I did a sweep of my ears and nose, with the recommended swirling action. I kept going until I heard no more cutting sounds. I then pulled out my 2 year old Panasonic GN30 and used it to see if there any residual hairs left - to my surprise, the GN-30 found many more hairs than the Philips model. I did not try the EYEBROW accessory, as the main use for was for ears and nose. I will stick with the Panasonic GN-30 until I find something better.

I LOVE this. The cap design has changed since I purchased my last one over a decade ago. Since the new design fully protects the blades without fully closing them off from the air, I can use it, wash it, re-cap it, and then immediately store it without worrying about trapping water inside the cap. Great price. Effective.

When it works, for me at least, it works fine. Trims the nose hair as close as, or closer than, any other device. The problem is, its lack of durability. The problem is in the head assembly (the battery contacts, motor, switch, etc., all of which are down in the handle, seem to work well). But if you take the head off -- it's meant to be removable -- you can see how flimsy the plastic assembly is inside it that translates the circular motion of the motor to the vertical motion of the blades. And it doesn't take long for this cheap little thing to fracture. When it does, it immobilizes the whole device. If you read some of the other comments you'll see people saying how it just seemed to lose power and go dead on them, all of a sudden; but that's not quite what happens. It sounds like it's dead, with no power at all -- but in fact the motor still works fine; if you take the head off you can see it still spinning; but that little plastic thing, when it breaks, prevents the motor from turning at all, even though it keeps on trying to. Philips, you would think, could either manufacture better -- or especially, could and should design better. But then of course, they wouldn't have any repeat customers! Unfortunately this thing is too flimsy to let the whole device have much of a life expectancy; shame on Philips.
