Incredible work light... Not so great for hiking
I have owned this light for 10 months as of writing this review. I first bought this light to go in my backpack for fishing. I live in Hawaii and do a lot of shore fishing which often requires fairly treacherous hikes across lava fields in the dark. I will admit, for this purpose, I was not impressed. The light just was not bright enough to illuminate the jagged terrain, however it worked fine for up close tackle work. Unhappy with it,I threw it in my tool bag (I have a handyman business) and bought a Princeton Tech Apex 200 for my backpack (an incredible light for hiking etc.). Soon after banishing the Petzel to my tool bag, I began to use it for work, and that is where it truly shined (pardon the pun). I do a lot of work in dark confined places, and this light puts off the perfect amount of illumination in the right spectrum to see clearly without distorting colors (very important when dealing with wiring). The Pixa 3 is incredibly durable as well. I have dropped it from heights up to 8ft. and it doesn't phase it. One of my favorite features is the way the light rotates the lens against the base to protect it when being stored, and it locks the power knob so the light cant be accidentally turned on. I can just toss it in my bag and not have to worry about it being damaged by other tools. Battery life is terrific and it gives you ample warning that the batteries need to be recharged/replaced. Also, its waterproof. I've dropped it in a pail of water and I just shook it off and it kept working fine. Conclusions: If you are looking for a light for hiking, biking or outdoor activities there are much better choices. I highly recommend the Princeton Tech Apex 200. If you are looking for a top of the line work/service light, I don't think you could find a better light than this.

Excellent, but a little heavy
Boy LED headlights have come a long way since my Tikka that I have been using for years. This model has three modes; flood, spotlight, and mix of both (at what appears to be 50% power for both lights.) It comes with the standard strap and a mount that clips directly (and securely) into my Petzl Vertx Vent helmet. Slick. It is a bit heavier than I am used to, but seems solid and it throws some serious light. Another nice feature -- the light itself rotates all the way around for storage, ultimately pointing the lights back at the helmet for protection and making it impossible to turn on by accident. The selector switch itself is easy to use while wearing gloves. I'm very happy with Petzl equipment in general and this seems to be a great purchase!

Durable and flexible. Good quality headlamp for work.
I've been using this daily for over two years with a Petzl Vertex Vent helmet. Working in the entertainment industry. Think active construction zone with a performance every day. The light is durable and bright. Flexible with both flood and spot beams. I'm using high quality rechargeable AA batteries and they seem to last forever (requires alkaline for HAZLOC, not needed for my work). Has taken numerous drops and impacts with no loss of function. I barely notice the weight on my helmet. I also use the included strap for when a helmet is not needed. Often letting the lamp hang around my neck is sufficient for me to read notes during dark rehearsals. Occasionally use it for hiking as well, though a light with less weight would be better for that. When not in use the light can be rotated all the way to protect the face. This also prevents the knob from turning to the ON position, saving your batteries. My only complaint is that the beam is not perfectly flat, especially with the flood light. Where the LED mounts inside the reflector has a small depression and that casts slight shadows. Most of the time it's not noticeable (if you're busy), but I sometimes think the lens is dirty and it's just the shadow. Overall well designed and will stand up to tough work environments.

Very fine headlight
This is a very fine light - well designed and well made. In particular: a. the extra wide stretch strap; b. the feature allowing the light to be turned 180 degrees, protecting the lens and preventing it from being switched on; c. a nice ratcheting beam height adjustment; d. a large on/off knob out in the open where it's easy to find; e. the mounting plate allowing secure mounting of the light on a helmet (plate needs to be adhered to the helmet ahead of time); f. the excellent brooad light pattern on the 'up close' setting; g. the powerful large spot pattern on the 'distance' setting; and h. the useful middle setting which is a mix of the up close setting and about 50% of the distance setting (two separate LED's are used). One additional note: this light, with its strap, fits neatly in the "Pixa Poche E78001" carrying pouch made by Petzl.

Petzl E78CHB PIXA 3 Headlamp
This is my second Petzl Headlamp. The other one was much older and a good lamp for it's time. I love this lamp. It gives very good light for walking around and maybe even running (I don't run)! I use it all the time around the house. Can't say much about how long the battries last since I haven't run the first one's down yet. It works just like it says it does. Have only dropped it once and it still is working. I like the part about the lens turning to face the back of the mount. Keeps you from scratching the lens. It won't acidently turn on either. Great little lamp. You hardly know it's on your head. My other one, you knew it was there. I think this light will last a long time. This is all I can say about it since I haven't had it that long. Would recommend it to anyone needing a good headlamp. The beam shines pretty far, I would guess 50 yards is a good amount of light. It's not a high powered hunting light. I bought mine at Amazon.com. Good price.

I bought this about half a year ago, and it has been a great head torch and I've used it loads since buying. It has a rugged design that means I don't mind throwing it in the bottom of a bag with other tools thrown on top. I have used it on events outside in the dark and inside in the dark/dim areas - in all areas it has performed well for when I need it. I have also found it useful for precision work where I require some brighter light for working on something close to me even during day light. The batteries lasted me about 4 months which I was pleased with as I use it quite a lot. The only down side in my opinion is that the actual torch is quite large compared to other head torches I've seen , but it stays on my head sufficiently well. Overall a great bright rugged head torch that I would highly recommend.

Einsatzort: Special camping in Tansania;-)
