Work great and even good for gifts
Good value and work very well, light is nice and bright. Have installed all around the house since learning how important this type of thing is after hurricane Helene. Have also given as gifts and very much appreciated.

Best safety lights for house at reasonable price
We've been using these lights for many many years. This is a "re-order" after 5 years, re-doing the previous lights. Some lights died after 5 years, some very dull light, so ..........time to update. Provides bright light either upward or straight out, parallel to ground. We just had to use last week during a power outage in Washington state, and lit up the house like Christmas.

On the right track but needs tweaking
Giving these emergency lights a 4 star because some are so tight when you try to move the lever to get the plug out so you can plug it in. I broke 3 of the 4 because they were too hard to move. You can still use a small flat-tipped screwdriver to move the pin but this shouldn't be happening. Remember to flip the button to auto as well. The red light on the bottom is crazy bright but you can cover that little red spot easily enough. This is NOT a nightlight and is designed so that you can also plug something in below it. Great idea during a power outage but seems a bit cheaper in quality where the slide lever is concerned.

Keep them plugged in!
I bought these two years ago, and they work well in storms or when the power goes out. Highly recommend. You must keep them plugged in at all times so that when the power goes out, they're charged.

Good steady shortstop
These emergency lights are good for what they are. There are 3 LED bulbs that will shine in a horizontal position or if you desire there are 2 LEDs that you can have shine vertically (from the top of the unit). Depending where you mount the unit will depend on which way you want the light to shine. These units will not light from both spots simultaneously so you need to pick which works best for your situation. Just to be clear these are not night lights. There is a small red LED that lights to let you know that the unit is charging and ready to go if the power goes out. But the red LED is not bright enough to be a night light. For me, I have one mounted at the base of my steps so that no one trips coming down the stairway in the dark in a blackout. I have another one in the main hallway where the bedrooms are and I mounted one in the garage plugged into the ceiling outlet and pointing towards my fuse panel so I can work the panel when I setup my generator. The power went out here for about 3.5 hours a few weeks ago due to heavy storms. The outage occurred in the evening so it was a perfect test for these lights. As the lights went out these units started up automatically and stayed lit for the entire 3.5 hours with no issues noted. The lights aren't blinding bright but they are sufficient for illuminating the way in any room they may be mounted in. One other small quibble is that these lights are not end user serviceable so I don't think you can change the battery on the unit. I see there are 4 small phillips screws in the back of the unit that allow you to take the unit apart. I haven't done so yet but I don't think you can change the battery. I can't say how long they will stay lit for since the power did come back on so your mileage may vary! I liked these lights so much that I bought a second set for my home and a set for my daughter's home. Recommended but I wish they were a bit brighter. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I rely heavily on reviews when I make purchases so I put some time into reviewing everything I buy on Amazon for personal or business use so I can help other people considering that item. Small, light, and provide bright enough emergency light at a good value.
Edit... Over a year later and still working. Yes they all worked when power outs happened. Florida hurricanes are no fun. Can not say how the recent ones are made but as of last year these lights were well made. Naturally remember to check recent reviews also....end Edit Got a 5 pack and tested a couple by darkening a room after these lights had been charged and pulling light out from wall. They instantly lite up and gave off enough light to see well enough in the room. Flash light is dimmer so just use the front panel lights when out of power if you need this to find flashlights. We live in Florida and for years our power would go out for most storms. Finally one the hurricanes brought crews from other states and they got into our back yards and fixed long needed routing systems and other issues. Was not the first time we had men out 'fixing' things but it was the first time it was a crew from somewhere else that brought so many guys and so much equipment out back that actually fixed out power outs going on so many years. Really nice crew. However power outages have taught me that I don't like stumbling around in the dark (esp. when kids were little and stressing about the dark) and so we always had flashlights all over the house stashed, lol. Now we have more cats who, well, cats and gravity, lol... that I did not want any cat below or our older dog getting hurt by heavy falling flash lights strategically placed. So these emergency lights are my solution as power outs still happen(just not for every thunder storm) for various reasons.

Great Emergency Backup LIghts and Portable Flashlights
After two nights in a row of 3 hour unexpected power outages I placed 5 of these throughout my home. First of all, they light up when the power goes out so you can see where you are walking. Then you can pop them out of the power outlet to use as a flashlight if needed. Great safety addition. Immediately ordered 5 more to add one or two more at home, and save the other 3 for a second home. NOTE: They do not have a nightlight function.
