Monstress #1 - Kindle edition by Liu, Marjorie, Takeda, Sana. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading Monstress #1. Review: Dark and gorgeous - I love how dark and gorgeous the illustrations are. I don't read comics too much, but when I do, I am always amazed at how great the story is and how it completes the art. The fight of good against evil is beautifully portrayed. Humankind labeled everything non-humans as monsters, giving them the right to experiment on them. Naturally, this is not how things should work. To establish how unfair this treatment is, the author placed children monsters into the dungeon. And children can't be blamed for anything, right? It seems clear where our sympathies should lay. But at the same time, we learn about the great war where monsters did something terrible. Will there ever be peace and understanding? Review: Absolutely Gorgeous Series Opener - For the past couple of months, I have seen this Graphic Novel, Monstress, popping up all over my feed as a recommendation. The blurb caught my eye, and what little I saw of the art looked promising. I usually try to read a sample of any new book I'm interested in before committing to a purchase, so I was beyond pleased to find this first issue for free on Kindle. I didn't hesitate to download it right away. The worldbuilding in this issue alone is enough to pi²que any fantasy lover's interest. I actually saw on one webpage a warning that Monstress was a pretty heavy dark fantasy with a lot of lore, which they sa daid bogged it down for7 some. Based on the background info & worldbuilding found here, I am so intrigued! There is already so much going on, as the author opens door after door with only more questions waiting each time. With the promise of unparalleled worldbuilding to explore, and a premise that grabs the reader from the very first panel, you might think Monstress had already laid all its cards on the table. But you'd be wrong. Because the art style is absolutely stunning. The best way I can describe the vividly unique art style of this graphic novel is a mashup off art nouveau, steampunk, with a bit of Full Metal Alchemist flavor. The large panels are simply gorgeous. All of these exciting elements— the carefully built, believable fantasy world filled with possibility; the fast paced, jump-right-in storyline promising deep lore and realistic, three dimensional characters; all beautifully rendered im a breathtaking style— were perfectly applied in this special 60 something paged first issue. Those few pages are enough to convince me I want to continue reading this series. As soon as I'm done in my I'm going to order the full series in hardcopy. I can't wait to see how the spectacular artistry loo we canks in a person! I may have just started my journey with Monstress, but I already recommend it. It promises to be intense & thought provoking, providing an in depth look into this fantasy/sci-fi world. And in my opinion it's worth a look for the art style alone. Best of all, you can try out this first issue for free to get a taste of whether or not you like it. Reading this one episode was enough for me to purchase the whole set that's out so far. Have a feeling I've found my new obsession.

Out-of-This-World-Gorgeous Art!
Double Wow! So dark ~ so brutal ~ so engaging ~ I'm so in love with Volume One! I know I'll keep reading the entire series ~ soon! So mesmerized & captivated by super gorgeous artwork! And Volume One Free. Thank You! I'm so ready to buy the next & next volumes! My reading style is to get to the Finale first. I can't stand the suspense of not knowing how things end. Sadly ~ there's no way I can read out of order. It won't make any sense ~ since there'll be fifth & sixth arc ~ So! My next read will be "Monstress, Vol. 2: The Blood." I'll torture myself to pay homage to OUT-OF-THIS-WOLRD-GORGEOUS ART! Yes, not knowing how things end is the max of all tortures I could think of.

Breathtaking.
Oh man ok so I just finished Monstress and I'm so hyped to read the others already!! It definitely is for more mature audiences, as there is quite a bit of violence and darker themes (don't read this if severed limbs make you squeamish). I definitely think this novel is worth the money, even if it's just 75 or so pages. The art is absolutely spectacular and the story is fascinating as well, keeping you turning the pages to see what could be next!! I can't wait to pick up the next and start reading! The characters, story, and art are all so original that I don't think I can relate this to anything I've read or watched before, which is saying a lot. If you like graphic novels or even just stories with a badass heroine, a plot that keeps you wondering, and art that makes you feel so immersed in the story, this is the one for you!! It's more impressive than I could have imagined.

Dark and gritty
I’m not a great lover of such dark and violent tales but this story sounds really interesting and even though I prefer not to read such horrors I still want to read more of this story. The illustration is very good and powerful. I’ll have to space out the reading so I don’t get triggered. I’ll read some nice and fluffy books and then go for volume 2.

Beautiful and intriguing
Let me start off by saying, "WOW!" If you think the cover art is eye catching wait til you open the book. Panel for panel, the quality is pretty spot on. Story wise, very interesting start. Not to heavy on the upswing, but just enough back story and plot to get you curious and attached to our main character. I took a chance with this comic and I'm really glad I did.

Monstress, where do I begin?! This was awesome, I was hooked immediately with the dystopian setting and storyline! This is my kind of comic book! Loved it!

Great mango to read quickly. It's a bit of horror mix with fantasy. Gonna buy the physical copy for sure.
