Digital Altimeter Portable Compass with Weather Forecast Multi Function Altimeter Barometer for Hiking, Camping, RVs and Outdoor Activities

I have tried several thermometers for hiking, and this has worked surprisingly well. It keeps time, provides the temperature, and the altimeter works. I have used to to measure the amount of descent or climb on some hikes, and that has been useful information. (If your hike takes you down 500 feet, you know what you will have to do to return to your trailhead.)

First disappointment was the product came without a battery. This is the first item that I have bought that needs a battery which came without one. Plan an extra $10 to buy a set of 4 batteries. You only need 1 battery. I've tried this item 3 times. I have attached this item to my backpack. I bought this item only for temperature as my GPS does not have this function. To my dismay, the temperature is always the same when I turn it on, look at it, and turn it off. The altimeter also does not work either. Same problem always the same. The only function that works is the time.

This altimeter/barometer is cheaply made and therfore affordable. It actually keeps pace with the barometer readings at my local airport. Being able to read the backlit temperature in a cold, dark tent was a bonus. It has read the altitude change of one hill at a time accurately. And it has been predicting upcoming weather surprising well. That said, it is not dependable. It can be frustrating. It can suddenly go dead (even when resting on a desk) and require the battery to be pulled out and the same battery put right back in. That trick has worked several times. It can drop saved data. It is fragile. But it can be quite useful (and fun) if you're willing to learn how to work with its idiosyncrasies. And again, affordable!

I really expected more of this, wanting something easy to attach to my backpack that would give accurate readings. Made of plastic and the readings were all over the place. Returned it.

The clocks works well but I wouldn't recommend it being worn on your pants because the battery holder keeps coming off.

Initial impressions out of the package are somewhat disappointing. It has the feel of a toy rather than camping or hiking gear. Easy not to notice from the listing that the battery is not included. That’s suggested in the specs that say, “… battery required.” No opportunity to evaluate accuracy or functionality yet.

One of my kids is into metrics so we got this for fun for our summer roadtrip so he could monitor elevation as we traversed the country. The controls and manual are a bit convoluted, but once you figure out how to set the baseline elevation for your current location, it gives surprisingly accurate readings compared against roadside elevation signs, often within 10 feet. A light aluminum housing would be a sturdy improvement over the plastic casing.

This product contained no battery, and you have to tear it up to try to add a battery. I’m so disappointed because I really need this product if it worked, but it doesn’t. I’d pay twice as much for one that works.

Das Gerät hat tolle Features und ist einfach und intuitiv zu bedienen. Man muss aber die Batterie richtig einlegen, damit der Deckel richtig schließt. Die Batterie in keinem Fall einfach reinlegen, sondern von oben nach unten in das Fach einschieben. Dann sitzt sie flach und fest drin, der Deckel schließt fest und das Gerät fällt auch durch Ruckeln beim Benutzen nicht aus.

I wasn’t expecting much, but the altimeter cannot get within 500 feet and the barometer is not much closer. Time and date is ok so far…….edited-after 4 hours it has lost 4 minutes

Wildly inaccurate device when using as an altimeter. Depending on the temperature the level of my garden varied between 115m to 175metres above sea level according to this device. Sometimes it read 115m and then I'd check it later and the device would read 175m and could vary between these figures. I'd bought the device for height readings and so its inaccuracy made it useless for me. I've thrown it in the bin, a waste of £18.

Einfaches Teil aus Plastik und im Gewicht sehr leicht. Batteriefach läßt sich nicht gut öffnen u. schließen, da beschädigt man den geschlitzten Verschlußdeckel aus Plastik sofort mit heftigen Kratzern, egal ob man hierfür einen Schraubendreher oder eine Münze verwendet. Funktional ist es ok, zeigt die Daten an wie in der Produktbeschreibung angegeben. Genauigkeit der Daten hab ich jedoch nicht getestet.
