It's an incredible compendium: drafts, unfinished tales, maps, notes, and commentary that trace how the legendarium evolved from early myths through to The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. The production quality is absolutely stunning—beautiful covers, solid binding, and the whole thing feels premium in the matching slipcase. No complaints here; it's exactly what a dedicated fan needs for exploring the full depth beyond the main stories. Worth every penny—I'll be referencing this set for years. Review: Great package and great price! Fast delivery from the USA to Portugal! - Great service! The package was in pristine condition. It was a cheap product, but it is not usual to cost less than 200 euros. The UPS staff, who were responsible for delivering to my home, stated that they attempted delivery but did not contact me. I am going to quote them: "Held for pickup at carrier location. Delivery attempted today at 2:02 PM. Unfortunately, UPS couldn't complete your delivery and is holding it for you to pick up. We're very sorry for the inconvenience." They provided bad service.

Really great set, but hard to get one undamaged.
This is an immense set on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings world, I believe over 6000 pages. The books are thick and heavy with Bible-thin pages and small type, but readable. The big issue is that the 3-volumes together are very heavy and the slipcase they come in not particularly sturdy. The result being that in many cases (including mine) unless this set is extremely well packed for shipping, there will likely be damage to the slipcase. Mine was damaged, but with the help of some Elmers glue and a black Sharpie pen, and patience, it was fairly repairable with just a seam or two partially split.

Arrived slightly damaged due to poor packaging
The books themselves are great - well made, well bound, exactly as I expected and wanted them to be. However the slipcover was a little damaged on arrival - whether during shipping or not I'm not sure. The price point from Amazon vs other stores made me willing to risk it. The damage to the slipcover is on the back side and won't be visible on a shelf. I bought these books to read, not collect, so I'm not super worried about it. If a pristine set is important to you, then you should probably buy it elsewhere.

Outstanding, but know what you’re receiving
These volumes are the best and cheapest way to obtain all of this material (and it’s a truckload). It’s really more for Tolkien completionists, but there are things here that will interest any Tolkien fan. Christopher Tolkien has been given a lot of blowback over the years, but it’s hard to imagine the editorial work required to get this out the door. This will please any hardcore Tolkien fan, loads of background material, loads of rough drafts. As far as product delivery status, I think this is kind of pointless. Mine arrived in pristine condition, in shrink wrap etc, but it probably helped that it was shipped to me with two unrelated hardcover books, so the normal Amazon box was a little more filled. It was shipped in a standard cardboard box. Mine arrived completely undamaged, but I can see how someone else’s might have some dings. This seems like luck of the draw. Also, yes the pages are thin, necessarily, but they are not that fragile. I don’t think you need to worry about pages being ripped if you are taking reasonable care.

Absolute Kaufempfehlung!

Well so far so good. As expected the box that house the books is a wreck but since I do not really need it in the space in my library I do not care that much. A little more concern issue is this little problem in the right bottom corner of the third part book, but then again should I ask for a replacement knowing that the problem might be worst. I will check the 1 and 2 star just to make sure that there is no more problem.
