The sole survivor of a female tribe of warrior breeders journeys to find a suitable mate. Review: Lovely Honeybee "Hundra" with Quite a Sting +++ - I chose this movie DVD, along with another one starring Laurene Landon ["Yellow Hair"], when in quite an odd mood -- "wanting to see something like Conan/Red Sonya" -- but feeling that those were too well known to me -- familiarity having bred my contempt. I had seen some large unknown portion of the Conan/Red Sonya movie-series in a small cinema [during a mini-marathon of the Conan/Red Sonya shows]. I was there, while with "buzzed" friends having a good time [until then], at a Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Gaming Convention. We all walked-out, after some long while, in amused but heavy disgust, to another mini-marathon cinema room. I had read somewhere online [some martial arts blog] about Laurene Landon being interesting -- very lovely, strong and athletic -- insisting on doing her own stunts and martial arts -- hand-to-hand, sword-to-sword or bow-and-arrows. I have a "soft-spot" for a "hard-case" like Laurene Landon. Well, to my happy surprise, Laurene Landon indeed is lovely, strong and athletic via her cool action stunts with skillful grace. Why, she is as "bad" [or for real] as Jackie Chan -- dancing around on cliffs and roofs -- and jumping out into space, into water, onto horses, or just onto dangerous ground. She seems to like whips, ropes, kicks, punches, head-butts and throws as much as Jackie Chan too. And, she obviously has as much happy fun during her dialog and action. This all goes for both "Hundra" and "Yellow Hair" -- and some other work of Laurene Landon. As for "Hundra" in particular -- it really is like very-well-done Conan/Red Sonya sword-and-sorcery. Which is not too surprising -- as "Red Sonya" is stated by both producers to be an attempt to upstage "Hundra". "Hundra" was made just after "Conan" using similar settings and much of the same production material [clothes, items and props]. I feel that "Hundra" is uniquely fine-and-fun -- indeed upstaging other movies in its genre -- including "Red Sonya". Why "Hundra" [her and the whole show] even stays very interesting, colorful and fun -- with great grand scenery and music -- while a "new-balance" of diversity, equality, and especially feminism, is "worked-on" and "worked-out". So gals and guys can easily enjoy this Sword-and-Sorcery. Mean Macho Men-aces BEWARE -- "Hundra" gonna collect yo' hair -- and have FUN too +++ Review: hundra review - Hundra was a good movie for a rainy day it had action, humor and a little drama.I don't recomend to people who don'tlike a just good sword and sandal movie.

Kicks Red Sonya where she lives.
Wow. This movie rocked. Some might call it a Red Sonya knock off, but they aren't noticing that it was actually filmed BEFORE Red Sonya. And in the making of the director even says that Red Sonya was actually made to be the Female Conan as a response to his film, because the director of Red Sonya didn't think he did it justice... Well I own both films and will actually side with Hundra. The action sequences are great for a low budget 80's film. VERY WELL SHOT. The costumes were very Hun-ish, but not in the lame XENA in the orient way. The acting was just plain perfect! For Spanish people speaking phonetically (I only noticed it with 1 actor and was quite shocked to learn that most of the actors were Spanish and not fluent English speakers) the casting was excellent! To be honest... This was a GREAT movie. I'm really really surprised, but very happy. Showed it too a feminist friend of mine and she loved it too. Me? I'm a 26 year old male. I'm just letting you know that it was something both male and females can enjoy immensely. You'll either love it or laugh at it. It would be hard to hate.

Not anything like I thought it might be from reading the 5 star reviews here
Anybody who gives a 5 star rating to this film proves that there’s all kinds of people in this world and there ain’t none missing. I am not advocating censorship or big brotherism tactics of ostracizing whoever doesn’t fit into our own little boundary of acceptable truth or reality only as I define it, as if the tyranny of the majority enslaves the minority. But if you gave Hundra a 5 star rating, you might want to seek professional counseling. Please. This film sucks. Other reviews that I read before buying this said the volume is almost hushed to non-existent like trying to hear a whisper quieter than the grave then background music comes on so loud it threatens to blow the ear drums out of anybody in a mile radius. That is the only thing among 3 to 5 star reviews that I agree with. Oh and by the way, for the reviews that talk about raping – you can see more vivid crimes against women on network television watching crime scene investigation dramas – and network television will leave less to the imagination. Seriously, it isn’t pornography without visually defining it tangibly to the eyes. Hundra has no raping outside of the imagination. If you want to imagine raping, you can do that watching a cartoon. There isn’t any T & A skin flick pornography anywhere in this film except for just under 2 seconds of a few women skinny dipping – which you see from further than 500 yards away, with most of them up to their chin submerged in the water. One woman gives the viewer a brief look then dives into the water – you get less than half a second so don’t blink. Cut that half a second out of this film and the rating could easily go to PG-13. If you’re hoping to watch Hundra as a companion film for self eroticism aid to empower flagellating the flag pole, you need to pick a different DVD. The beach scene of Hundra in the dusk of twilight on horseback from 300 yards away it is so dark you can’t be sure if she’s nude or not, and that is 3 seconds at best. Too dark, too far away, and on horseback. Not worth hoping for anything fun out of that. Also, there is as much disrespect and hatred for men in this film as there is anything else. But here again, some people have experience and education in unequal measure, so naturally prejudices, bitterness, anger, self-centered egocentric notions, and failed relationships can all contribute to the interpretation of a film like Hundra. Which is why countries that butter their bread differently from each other end up going to war. Just to be clear, Hundra doesn’t have any hatred of women in it from start to finish. Toast or biscuits for breakfast? Pick the wrong one & you’re a heretic that needs burned at the stake. Poorly made, cheaply made, hastily made, with sub-standard acting, terrible sound – I had headphones on & missed about 20% of the words spoken (there isn’t any subtitles for the deaf or hard of hearing), and appears to have nothing in mind except giving Laurene Landon her own film to star in. She should have realized her role would have been better received if she did the entire movie at least half if not entirely nude. Maybe then Hundra would have been worth watching. As it is? Skip it.

Similar to Conan the Barbarian, Hundra is the sole survivor when her tribe is massacred and she vows revenge. The film is a mixed bag with mixed messages. She disposes of the band of cutthroats yet has great difficulty getting past a dwarf on a donkey. She believes that women should not be second class citizens yet demurs to a bunch of lecherous drunkards. Some of the action and stunts are not very well choreographed, such as when the soldiers pursuing Hundra look to hold back, allowing her to scale the fort's ramparts. To her credit, Laurene Landon did most of her stunts and she looked good in her two-piece outfit. If you can look past the inconsistencies of the film, it is an enjoyable romp although some of the violence is vicious and definitely not for the kids. The DVD reviewed here is the Region 2 Spanish edition. The film runs for 105 minutes and the aspect ratio is 2.35:1. Languages are Spanish and English with optional Spanish subtitles. The sound quality is also a mixed bag with some of the dialogue so indistinct that the volume had to turned up, but then turned down again when the music started. There are no extras.
