The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth album by the English rock band Pink Floyd. Originally released on 1 March 1973, on the label Harvest, it built on ideas explored in the band's earlier recordings and live shows, but departs from instrumental thematic by founding member Syd Barrett. The album explores themes including conflict, greed, the passage of time, and mental illness, the latter partly inspired by Barrett's deteriorating mental state. - Developed during live performances, an early version was premiered several months before recording began; new material was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road in London. The group used some advanced recording techniques at the time, including multitrack recording and tape loops. Analogue synthesizers were prominent in several tracks, and snippets from recorded interviews with Pink Floyd's road crew and others provided philosophical quotations throughout. Engineer Alan Parsons was responsible for many distinctively notable sonic aspects and the recruitment of non-lexical singer Clare Torry. The album's iconic sleeve, designed by Storm Thorgerson, depicts a prism dispersing light into colour and represents the band's lighting, the record's thematic material, and keyboardist Richard Wright's "simple and bold" design request. Noisy Pressing
It’s Dark Side Of The Moon, it’s a classic well known and loved album - no point reviewing the music so I’m reviewing the remaster and pressing quality. I’ll start with the good. Amazon’s packaging is excellent now for shipping records and this was very well protected and arrived in perfect condition. The album includes all of the original posters and stickers that were originally available when the album was first released so that’s a nice touch. The gatefold is excellent. The remaster is actually decent, good dynamics and clarity with good power and depth to the bass. Not at all spoiled by excessive compression or poor EQ. Apparently this particular remaster was mastered from the original analogue tapes. Now the bad, despite cleaning prior to playing with both a Pro-ject Clean It, a carbon fibre brush and a zap with a Zerostat Milty 3 my pressing has a lot of crackles, way too many for a brand new record. I can just about live with it because the music is so dynamic it overpowers the noise, but quieter sections are certainly not silent. Yes I’m used to vinyl and know how it’s supposed to sound especially when brand new. My pressing is nice and flat with no wobbles or warps and no skips, and the overall recording and mastering is really good, so to avoid the hassle I’m not returning it, I suspect after a coupe of plays a lot of the embedded debris from the manufacturing process will be dissipated.

This is the best-selling album of ALL TIME, and for good reason. It's an absolute masterpiece from start to finish. There are no filler songs, it's just one beautiful and continuous piece of art that all fits together. And of course it sounds wonderful on vinyl!

As I've never owned a version of this classic album and as it is the 50th anniversary coming up this year (2023) I thought I'd better put in in my collection. Still a great listen!
