A cute book that has a matching stuffed animal that can be found to go with it.
I had a cute little stuffed animal that I discovered had a book that went with it. I ordered it and donated the two as a gift for a local auction. This was a hit.

Beautiful and Magical Book!
Lost and Found will hopefully win many awards for this touching adventure story with themes of Love and Friendship at its core. A boy befriends a penguin and tries to return him to his home at the South Pole. They bond and enjoy each others' companionship. They never give up on each other, even when they become separated. The boy shows surprising maturity when he realizes he made a mistake leaving the penguin and then goes back to find him. What a great lesson to learn, that it's OK to make a mistake, acknowledge it, then take action to amend it! This story illustrates that it's the Journey, the trip along the way, not necessarily just the destination that gives life meaning and value. Furthermore, the values of friendship, companionship, and sharing come through strongly in this story. This book also taps into classic, timeless themes of finding one's way back home, almost like a kid's version of The Odyssey. The watercolors of the book are spectacular, deep and rich. The drawings have an interesting scale that make the two travelers seem quite heroic. The final reunitement embrace of boy and penguin will melt your heart. What a touching portrait! I challenge the public to find another embrace that is so simple, so pure, so elegant, so Loving. This book is a Treasure!

The value of friendships that take all forms
If you haven't read Oliver Jeffers-you need to. I have a 2.5 year old and we just found his works and are thrilled with them. Great for adults and for children alike. This book centers on a young boy that find a lost penguin and befriends him but thinks he needs to go home to the South Pole. They make the long trek and clearly both are sad upon departing. The boy returns and there is a great picture of an emotional hug and they reunite. It's got a great visual of what it means to be friends and the allegory would be that your friend can be of any race, religion or species if you care for each other. The sequel Up and Down is a must have companion piece to this with the same two characters. HIGHLY recommended for your young child that is the avid story listener.

Perhaps it is because he had already liked penguins when I got this book, it became a massive hit with my son. We read it every day multiple times, he loves the story. The pictures and the book quality (we have a board book) are great.
