Q: can it be used in a dog house outside to control temperature.?

WTC200 thermostat (which the 6ft NTC temperature senor is on the outlet) will meet your requirement. You can put outlet with the probe in the dog house, put the remote control in the room, and check the temperature of the dog house remotely. Please note that the remote control distance is about 100m (open space) and the socket is not waterproof. Thank you!

Q: I set the unit to come on heat at 50f and go off at 60f, the room temp was 53 and the unit would not turn on. am i missing something?

According to your setting, The temperature will keep in the 50-60 range. When the present temp is in 50 between 60, the unit will not turn on. If you want it to turn on, please reset, let the on value is higher than the present temp. You can set come on heat at 55f and go off at 60f. Then it will work.

No, the activation temperature range is 32℉~158℉. It can be 32-35. F

Q: I want to use this for a block heater and wondered if the remote is wall mountable. I'd like to put the remote outdoors under the eve for protection

The remote does have a slot on the back for wall mounting. I don’t think it is rated for outdoor use but it seems fairly well sealed, so if it was protected from rain it would probably work. However, the temperature sensor is inside the remote unit. Therefore it would be sensing the outside temperature. It is intended to be inside a space that is being temperature controlled.
