| Directions | Remove the Rowa ROWAphos from its packaging. Rinse the media under running water before use. Place the media in a media bag or reactor. For best results, use 1 kg of ROWAphos for every 1000 liters of aquarium water. Gradually increase the amount of ROWAphos in your system to avoid shocking your aquarium inhabitants. Phosphate levels should be tested regularly to ensure proper removal. Do not reuse… |

Best Phosphate Removal
This is by far the best phosphate removal on the market. Cleans really fast when rinsed seems to work longer at keeping phosphates down longer than other brands. Recommend to all!

It works... but watch grain size
I used to run BRS GFO, but decided I would give ROWAphos a chance based on some recommendations. First thing I have to get out of the way... Do not believe the hype about not having to rinse this media. You absolutely have to rinse the media. This isn't a knock against the product, just dispelling some bad information that is floating around. With that out of the way, the product works well. My one complaint is with regard to grain size. It is a little smaller overall than the high capacity BRS. This proved problematic in my Innovative Marine reactor, but some adjustment and addition of finer foam pads resolved the issue. Checking for phosphate without a photocolorometer is generally always going to show 0ppm if phosphate is low, using a Hana or other meter will give an accurate reading when calibrated properly. My LFS provides this service and I've seen a healthy reduction in the past month with 2 cycles of ROWAphos.

Doesn’t live up to claims - too fine of particles to retain in bag.
I have multiple issues with this product. I used it based on the recommendation of Triton after sending in a water sample for ICP testing. I used an entire 250g container in a 40g breeder - total of 55 gal including sump. I put it in a media reactor and measured PO4 in both tank and media reactor outlet. After 3 days there was only a slight reduction of PO4. My PO4 was pretty high at 0.34ppm using a ULR Hanna meter. The best I could get after 4 days was 0.23ppm. I switched back to SeaChem Phosgaurd. Starting at the 0.23ppm @ 8:42am, by 8:35am the next day it was down to 0.15ppm, 2 days after that down to 0.05 and 2 more days at 0.03ppm. I tested multiple times from the tank and from the media reactor outlet. Second problem - this stuff is messy. I could not get it to stay in the bag that was supplied with the package. I rinsed a lot down the drain. After I took it out of my reactor, I let it dry out (in the supplied bag still). Once it was dry, I could shake the bag and dust would drop out. I shook it for about 30 shakes and had enough dust come out that I was unwilling to wash it down the drain and used a paper towel to scoop it up and throw it in the trash can. I would not recommend this to a friend, and I will never use it again myself.
