desertcart.com: All Points Patchwork: English Paper Piecing beyond the Hexagon for Quilts & Small Projects: 9781612124209: Gilleland, Diane: Books Review: Outstand EPP Resource! - I just received my copy and I know it's destined to become a very valuable resource as I continue with my new adventures in English Paper Piecing (EPP). Bear in mind, this isn't a project book, although it does provide several inspiration projects (and the book's website has links to projects made with EPP). It's a very comprehensive look at how to make and assemble EPP sections. The book also has a section devoted to coming up with your own designs. I've only just skimmed through the book, and I've already picked up a few helpful tips. I had recently purchased another book on EPP, and was hesitant to purchase this one, but now that I have it in my hands, I realize that the depth of the instructions and abundant photographs will make this my go-to book for any questions I may have about paper piecing. It's a great companion book to the EPP book I already own and I highly recommend it if you are interested in trying out EPP for yourself. You can jump right in with some of the smaller suggested projects (I am currently scanning the laundry pile to see if there is a towel for me to applique). Review: The best EPP reference - get this book first - I love EPP and wish I'd chosen this as my first book for it. The ones I purchased previously are more photo-spread and pattern oriented with some technique because, what is there to say about basting fabric around a template? Well, a lot. This book explains the different methods, the fiddly bits and how to join. I'm not thrilled with glue because, well, maybe I'm a snob or maybe I just hate having to stock up on glue, but the author includes this basting method with the same attention to detail as the others, making it accessible and usable by every EPP fan . I've been paper piecing for awhile and was able to refine and neaten up my piecing significantly. Yes, this is a book I bought and actually use. The resource list has mostly free goodies and some inexpensive products . This is is in keeping with the original piecers who were using up scraps by basting them around whatever paper was handy. Such a straightforward, easy reading book. This is my reference book for EPP.

Absolutely the best book for learning EPP!!!!
I've done some EPP in the last year, and have read a number of books on the subject. When I found All Points Patchwork, I was amazed!! Ms. Gilleland has written a guide to EPP in a very easy to understand format. She explains the reasons behind doing things, and gives alternative ways wherever practical. Some people have complained that there aren't any actual patterns in the book. That may be true, but you're given such a thorough background, and so many ideas, by the time you're part way in, your mind will be racing with ideas! There are diagrams in the back with numerous shapes so you can photocopy, to print out your own templates. Everything you need to know to get started, and to progress to more complicated designs, is contained in this one volume! If you need patterns, there are thousands available for free or to purchase.

“All Points Patchwork” Best Book on EPP
Best book on English Paper Piecing that I have ever read. Includes just about everything you will need to know about EPP including how to stitch and clip curves and what order to sew your pieces together. There are plenty of projects and ideas. Absolutely a five star book. As for the shipper. OMG! The book was sandwiched between cardboard , slipped into a padded plastic envelope, which was slipped into another padded plastic envelope, which was slipped into a larger padded envelope. The book was in perfect condition. Thank you for taking such care!

Good but lacking
While this book had good information if you have never tried EPP if you were looking for anything more than inspiration you will be disappointed. There are no projects included in this book, there are pictures of projects that the author has completed that might give you ideas but a bit ho hum. I still recommend the book, especially for beginners or those EPP'ers who need a refresher lesson or two.

Finally, a GREAT book that covers all aspects of EPP
Finally, I great book that covers all aspects of English paper piecing. No, it's not a pattern book and won't give you projects to work on, so if that's what you are looking for go buy a different book. But, if you want to learn EPP in a straight forward and easy to understand way, get this book. I've purchased many, many other EPP books but this is by far the most comprehensive. It provides all the little tips and tricks to getting your pieces to fit together nicely. The book covers putting together different shapes to create new and different patterns. Piecing together the tricky curved pieces is covered in an easy to understand way. Get this book, you won't be disappointed.

Chock full of information & helpful tips & photos
The closeup photos of knots, how to hold the fabric for basting, & more are really helpful. I’m learning EPP based on books & YouTube videos, so I appreciate the still shots here. Gilleland uses the same technique for ending a seam securely as Tula Pink does in her video. I bought this book on the Kindle so that it’ll be with me when I travel, as a reference, but I also printed a copy for when I’m home & just want to keep a page open. I will be referring to this book for a long time to come, I think. It doesn’t have projects, but goes into detail on how to join pretty much every shape to every other.

This book is beautifully laid out with very clear written instructions and attractive easy to follow diagrams. It has a blessedly practical section on drafting a very wide range of templates for block designs - which is what I was really looking for. Also, the Author provides numerous tricks and tips to make hand sewing easier and so far more pleasurable. I had to smile at the description of a crafter gradually completing an entirely hand sewn quilt in a leisurely way over a long time period. It only took me 30+ years to complete my entirely hand sewn Double Hexagonal quilt; so long in fact that the Pink and Green Granny's Garden scheme has had time to fall hopelessly out of fashion and now right back in again! 😆 Only one small quibble, the author suggests EPP is only so called because American ladies named it that - instead of the blindingly obvious reason that it is so named because the craze started in England! As an English woman that irked me somewhat. That said I can both forgive and thoroughly recommend this book.

Very thorough. No projects. Only suggestions of projects. Demonstrates how to use the shapes.

Adatto a chi ama cucire a mano. Testo in inglese ma le moltissime immagini lo rendono comprensibile anche a chi non conosce la lingua
