Terrifying. Fun. SO... I saw that this was the ultimate release and I ordered the DVD version, instead of the Blu-ray because Blu-ray sound can be so uneven, ACTION LOUD, conversation so quiet. I was dissapointed because I kept have to turn up the volume when they spoke and quickly turn it down on the action sequences because it was SO FREAKING LOUD!!! And thats the DVD, imagine the Blu Ray. Going to try the Anchor Bay version even tho its trimmed by 1 minute.

Not as bad as some claim it to be
Parasite is not exactly an Alien rip off as most people claim it to be. I find it annoying how every movie about a monster with a large head or one that inhabits the insides of human is labeled a rip off of Ridley Scott's Alien. Maybe it's inspired by it, but not a full blown rip off. Sure its got similarities but for the most part it's got some originality. PLOT: In the future, America is run by an organization called Merchants. In order to keep citizens in check, a scientist is hired. He creates 2 parasitic creatures, one inhabits his stomach; the other is kept in a capsule of sorts. Realizing the danger at hand, the scientist makes run for it, eventually entering a small town. He runs afoul of a local gang of punks, a bar keeper, and a young woman. Meanwhile he's pursued by a Merchant. The punks steal the capsule and unleash the parasite... I first saw Parasite when I was roughly 7 or 8 years old. For years all I could recall was a catfish like monster and the film's climax. After revisiting it, I find it still pretty enjoyable. It's your standard monster movie with some interesting elements. The post-apocalyptic setting is unique and promising. The film's major highlights are effects by Stan Winston. Demi Moore stars in her first major role as well. It was directed by the legendary Charles Band, who does a pretty solid job in the director's chair. A sequel had been planned but never materialized. The score was composed by Richard Band. REVIEW: Parasite seems to be beaten and attacked unfavorably quite often which I find quite sad. Sure it's a b-movie but it's actually not that bad. The effects are stellar and the story is fairly interesting. The dialogue isn't too bad and the acting pretty good for the most part. The characters are peculiar but fairly intriguing and pretty likeable. The desolate landscape serves as a sense of dread and doom. At times the film musters up suspense and atmosphere. I find Richard Band's score to be pretty gloomy and it suits the film nicely. Near the film's end there's pretty good twist. Parasite was originally release in 2-D and 3-D in 1982 by Embassy Pictures and runs 85 minutes. It has been released on home video several times. In 2002 Anchor Bay released it to DVD as did Cult Video in 1999. In 1990 it received a VHS release by Paramount. A laserdisc was released by Shadow Entertainment as well. Anchor Bay Features: Widescreen version Trailer Chapter Insert Cult Video Features: Behind the Scenes Trailers Full Screen version RATINGS: Parasite (1982)-3.5/5- Plagued by a couple dull moments, but overall fun little creature feature. Anchor Bay DVD-3/5-Nice transfer and widescreen format with a trailer and insert. Would've been better had it included a 3D version and the behind the scenes featurette. Cult Video DVD-3/5-Okay transfer with some good features.

A superb 3D restoration of an icky schlocky 80's horror
Received my copy on time and couldn't wait to watch it. It's a dopey, ropey little grindhouse schlock-fest that wouldn't be much fun in 2D but is an absolute blast in 3D, and that's exactly what it was meant to be. The extreme pop-outs rival those in The Bubble and Jaws 3, while the layering and depth and use of 3D space are always eye-catching. I like the way Band and his stereographer experiment with foreground/background separation. It's like they're figuring out a new visual language for the Z-axis, but unlike most modern meddlers in 3D, Band, like Arch Oboler with The Bubble, relished the negative space "outside the screen" as well. I love that. I think it's fabulous for this kind of film. The metal tray in the lab and the steel pipe with blood dripping out are easily two of my favourite 3D blu-ray moments this year. I didn't know the story was post-apocalyptic, so that added a little interest. And to be honest I’ve seen a lot worse. The lead actor is so bad his performance ranks below that of the parasite. The rest of the cast is decent. I didn’t find the film scary or jumpy in the slightest, but it is icky. As others have said, the 3D restoration is superb – more than up to the 3D Film Archive’s unfailingly high standards. Good extras, too. All in all, it’s a damn good release.

Another Must Own 3D 80's Flick.
Love the movie. Thankful to finally see it in 3D. There is a little bit of ghosting, but has moments that really look good. Either way, worth owning and any 80's 3D Blu-Ray collector will need this title.

Gorgeous and Packed Special Edition of a Goofy 80s Horror
This is a review of the Kino Lorber Studio Classics 3-D Blu-ray (2019). First off, the movie is a silly Alien takeoff that's cheaply and ineptly done. Throw in a very very young Demi Moore, some cheesy gore effects, and a post-apocalyptic world that looks oddly like 1980s American, and it's an enjoyable mess. What it does have going for it here is this astonishing loaded 3-D special edition. A cheap 80s horror should not look this good. The 3-D Film Archive did the transfer and it looks impeccable on all counts. The 3-D effects are realized using modern techniques, not red/blue anaglyph, and they look astonishing at times. Lots of things hanging in the foreground really make this an impressive viewing event in 3-D. And then there's the pipe scene...wow! The special edition side of things is not neglected either; in addition to a 2-D version of the film for those who are not 3-D capable, there's an audio commentary, several packed documentaries on the writing, filming and scoring, and other goodies. If you have any fondness for this picture, or generally like 80s cheesy horror, this disc is a must.

3D Classic As Meant to be Seen
Great 3D effects, and a wonderful 3D remaster job by the 3D Archive. Everything they touch is worth buying. If you're a drive-in or B-movie fan, you'll love this. Features Demi Moore, in her first movie role, and also former Runaways rock n' roller, Cherie Currie, in her first movie role. Non 3D owners can still buy this and play it on your 2D players.

It's an OK film with a few cool scenes. It's Demi Moore's first major roll and Cherie Currie has a small part. If cheap post apocalyptic movies are your thing you'll enjoy it.

5 Stars for the 3D! This is a movie I remember watching in the 80's. Wow! What a fantastic 3D restoration!! The movie is pretty cheesy but most of the old horror movies I've watch from the early 80's are pure cheese. I've watched it twice now and loved every second. (*update: watch count now at 6) There are so many cool 3D scenes in this film. If you love 3D you have to add this to your collection. Thank you 3-D Film Archive for another outstanding 3D restoration. Fingers crossed for 3D Friday the 13th part III and 3D Spacehunter.

Parasite is an early 80's movies directed by Full moon films very own Charles Band, the movie is set in a future wasteland where a scientist is trying to destroy a deadly parasite that he was forced to create, with the help of a young girl he only has a short time before he's hunted down by his employers, the movie has some great old school monster creature effects by Stan Winston, there's plenty of blood and slime and mild gore all on a decent low budget, the cast is pretty decent, this was the first movie to ever star Demi Moore who at the time was 18 and very sexy, if you love old cult rare 80's horrors then this is worth seeking out for a bit of fun. The movie was originally released back in 1982 in 3-D made for a budget of $800.000 and grossed $7 million back making it a 3-D success which paved the way for Friday the 13th part 3 in 3-D, and Jaws 3-D. The DVD Spanish import Parasito (IDA Films) Plays in English language and subtitles can be turned off. Region 2 disc so plays in the UK, 85-mins, 1982. Film on the DVD is 2-D only, features only include star bio's.

The story is lame and simple but the 3D effects are really cool and the picture quality is excellent. It was a lot of fun to watch and seeing Demi Moore's first acting job shows her potential to later become a star.
