Le Creuset Signature Copper Knob, Medium

During the quarantine, I started making a lot of bread. The La Creuset dutch ovens I'm using come with man-made knobs that are rated to only around 450 degrees. I'm baking at over 500 degrees so thought I should replace the knobs with metal ones. The large knobs for my 7 qt dutch ovens were not available so I went with the medium size. It was a bit of a wait for them to get here, but I continued baking anyway. I turns out that the original knobs hold up easily to well over 500 degrees so I didn't really need the metal one but kept it anyway. Although smaller than the large size that goes with the pot, it's still big enough and works fine.

So happy to find this pretty replacement knob for my chipped original (oops, silly me...dropped it! The lids are heavy). It is a bit smaller in diameter but seems to handle just as well and dresses up my most prized cookware item. The screw provided was almost identical to the original. pros: It's oven safe to a higher temperature, and looks nice. cons: It's flimsy. It feels hollow, and is certainly light. Maybe you could make the argument that it had to be lighter to reduce its heat capacity, but it's attached to a cast iron lid. It's not like you're going to be picking this up without an oven mitt anyway. I didn't measure the new knob, but I wouldn't be surprised if it weighed less than the plastic version it replaced. If I were doing this all over again, I'd get one of the Staub knobs . They're not any cheaper, and they might be just as flimsy, but at least they're better looking, and might represent a better value.

Original Bakelite knob broke off in a very hot oven. This is a perfect replacement and includes the bolt attachment. Great look as well. Love my le creuset.
