but I was a little disappointed there were no histories on the sayings
everything about idioms but were afraid to ask. In other words, I think every idiom in the English language is here in 465 pages. It was a little more than I needed, but I was a little disappointed there were no histories on the sayings. The little stories behind the idioms are often quite interesting. ex: "throwing in the towel," was from the boxing world, and of course, "stepping up to the plate," from baseball. Those are little fun facts. Probably not every one has a story, but there are many. But it's well organized by the key words, and easy to use and gives example sentences.

Oxford Idioms
Very complete, however, be warned: this text includes British idioms, some of which are not used in US. Exercises in center of text good but sometimes difficult for English language learners.

I liked this book a lot. It has heaps of idiom including ones I didn't even realise I was using till I saw them in the book. It is fun as well as it has quiz's and other exercises. I found that I knew all (or almost all) of the idiom but for foreigners idiom can be quite a challenge and my Korean wife is learning lots of them and finding it very good
