Apple Magic Wireless Keyboard with Numeric Keypad - US English (Renewed)

I have a tendency to but certain things Renewed\Refurbished. This keyboard was no mistake. Sure, it does not have a fingerprint scanner, but my MacBook Air does. From overall quality down to the keystrokes, I am very happy with my purchase. I even purchased a second.

I'm giving this 5 stars only because I received a 5 star item. It's clear from the other reviews that other people got less than ideal iterations of the keyboard. My biggest peeve is that they sent the item in some raw-dog packaging. No fluff or wrapping - just being knocked about in the box which also clearly showed signs of delivery wear-n-tear. Asinine to send a tech item barebones like that. I consider myself lucky since outside of normal signs of usage on the back of the keyboard, everything is fine. Either Amazon or the seller has to do better with the packaging. Functionality is fine generally for the keyboard. It's a bit different from the built in mac one, but it's not a crazy adjustment. Actually, if your lid is still open (mac) I'd say you can simultaneously use both without feeling weird when switching. It's EXTREMELY light weight (expected) and the battery life should knock your socks off (most people i know confirm a single charge per month - heavy users). There's no elevation feet at the back, so it's pretty flat and the rubber grips are good (for me at least). Mine came with a short charging cable, but most of us will have a lightning cable for airpods so if you didn't it's not the end of the world. My BT connectivity was fine, no issues there. However, there might be a slight delay when turning off the keyboard so be aware of that (seems like the switch doesn't instantly kill power). That's not a big thing taking into consideration it's not backlit nor does the keyboard drain power. It's an apple keyboard, not much to "comment" on since this was actually made with common sense and not like that godforsaken magic mouse IYKYK >> If you want something more compact, get the one without the keypad. Otherwise, the one with the digit pad is a no brainer. Unless i was personally robbed of the safety packaging - make sure when ordering you say a prayer or light some incense or something. Mine was delivered by USPS (not sure if that makes a difference), but I'd assume another carrier might not be as "gentle" with this fine piece of technology.

The product works, but the keyboard is dented, which prevents it from staying securely on the table. I do not recommend purchasing this, as trying to save a few bucks on a "refurbished" item may end up costing more in the long run. You'll likely have to replace it anyway. I suggest avoiding these so-called refurbished products—they're not worth it.

Using both macOS and Windows for different usages, I needed a wireless keyboard which would have an integrated battery instead of using AA batteries and also have a clean, slim, minimalistic aluminum design aesthetic to fit with my workspace setup. In fact this is my second Apple Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad as my first one (also bought via this Amazon seller as refurbished in February 2020) was unfortunately accidentally damaged by spilled hot coffee leading to some keys being partially stuck and less responsives even after cleaning/removing the concerned keys (but this another story). Being a creative working with macOS which I use as my daily operating system of choice, this keyboard with its special shortcuts designed for the Apple environment is a welcoming bonus. It Just Works! Going to Windows, the keyboard works like most of the standard PC keyboards minus some differences such as the Windows key being replaced by Command/⌘, specific macOS shortcuts such as Mission Control or Launchpad not having any effects with Microsoft's OS (but media controls keys works when supported by most media player applications), and missing current battery level gauge in the Bluetooth panel in Windows 10's Settings window. Now talking about battery charge, I would admit I'm always surprising by how long the Magic Keyboard can hold a charge without needing to be plugged to the computer, probably the most positive detail I can give about this keyboard. In overall I can use it wirelessly for almost 10~12 weeks before needing to be plugged with the provided USB-A to Lightning cable. The ergonomic and low-profile flat keys may be a matter of personal preference —at the opposite side being mechanical keyboards with long pression— but after getting used it feels very comfortable to work with. Also while such keyboards aren't designed for gaming in mind I would admit I haven't encountered any issues using it in such scenarios. Lastly about the refurbished product itself, the keyboard arrived in a blank packaging (no official Apple packaging) in a clean-as-new condition, still having about 50% of charge (thus ready to be used wirelessly), the only overlooked little detail by the seller was the keyboard Bluetooth's ID was renamed when arrived (as seen in the picture attached) but this can be easily fixed by changing its name when right-clicking on the device entry in the Bluetooth panel under macOS. To conclude this lengthy review and other blah blah, I'm very satisfied by this keyboard and goes well into my workflow.

I had no problems with this, the battery life is fine, but I usually leave it plugged it when gaming for faster response. Pairs well with my Mac mini. My only complaint with this keyboard is when trying to clean it. My cats get on the desk for lovins and cuddles and sometimes they track stuff on the desk. Sometimes, those will get behind the keys and I end up having to tap the thing on the desk quite a bit to clean it out. Plus, over time, you have to clean it off anyway. I wish it were easier to clean because the keys are not removable. I have not tried compressed air and probably won’t. I do prefer the chicklet keys on this as it is quiet to type on, so it’s nice to not have to hear the clackity clack of other keyboards, but that’s just preference. I’d buy this again, even with the difficulty of trying to clean the thing.
