So close to being great
I got these mainly for an office environment, with the intent to travel with them occasionaly. I have an air vent above me that rumbles, the noise of people typing on keyboards, and a cube neighbor that crunches on hard candy all day. The active noise cancelling was excellent, blocked all of the above out. A maintenance guy came into my cube and setup a metal ladder to change a light bulb and I never noticed until the light went out. The passive noise cancelling is great as well. The sound quality for music is also excellent, I spent much of the first day with them just sitting there listening and not working. They are not big on bass but they produce a great detailed full sound. The cord length was fine, I clipped the battery case on my pants pocket and it worked ok at my desk. It is a bit annoying having the battery pack but there is really no other alternative to it. The deal breaker for me was the external noise transmitted through the cables. I am surprised I have not seen this in any other review but for me it was incredibly annoying. When the cord rubs or bounces on things it is transmitted very loudly to the ear pieces. I thought maybe it would be less noticible in a louder environment so I wore them while walking around the city streets. It wasn't, I just couldn't deal with it, it was really annoying. For $230, they had to be perfect and the cord noise was too much, I returned them. So, so, close. It was sad to send them back but it drove me nuts to listen to the rubbing noise.

Had my concerns due to some reviews, but LOVE these!!
Based on some reviews I had my concerns that the fit in ear would be bad. As I am Germany I might just have German Ears, but this set fits me perfect. I had many of the noise canceling headsets and always was a huge fan of Sennheiser. This proofed to me again if you want the best by Sennheiser, don't even waste your time with anything and I mean ANYTHING else. I had AudioTech both the US and JP editions, tried the Sony's, Bose, Shure and Panasonic. At the end I broke down and bought this, worth EVERY PENNY! Fantastic fit, Superb sound. They are pricy, but so are Shure and Bose and these sound better, take up way less space and are just quality wise the leader of the pack. I travel a lot to Asia and spend often 9 - 14 hours on long-haul flights, these are the only ones that do not make you ears hurt, feel funky or make you ears sweat (why I gave up on my Bose's). Next time I will try Sennheiser first, like I have always done in the past instead of experimenting at the end that is cheaper. I LOVE THESE, the best in-ear headphones in all categories.

Do Not Expect these to Work
The Sennheiser CXC 700 Ear Canal headphones do not work and they are very uncomfortable. I recommend you avoid these. I was a great fan of Sennheiser headphones. I have a set for listening to music at home and was on my second pair of Sennheiser PX 250, but these were lost on my last flight to London. These were excellent little portable headphones which took almost no space in my luggage. Unfortunately I lost the second pair on their first use. I am a geoscientist with a major oil company and my job requires extensive overseas travel so I needed a replacement, but unfortunately choose the CXC 700 Ear Canal headphones. Noise canceling headphones/earbuds work by generating a low-cut filter. Sennheiser often uses an external device which picks up the jet engine noise and generates an opposite signal to cancel the noise. The CXC 700 Ear Canal headphones have the same external device found on the Sennheiser PX 250 headphones. However, the earbuds produce NO noise cancelation. Nada none, they do not work. I can only surmise that this is a quality control failure, poor production practices. This would be reflected in the range of positive to negative reviews. So I am stuck with a useless device, and I believe there is a high probability you will have a similar experience. You may also need to consider that the range of reviews reflects the range of ear canals we have. The CXC 700 were positively painful for me to wear. I tried all of the supplied earbuds, and purchased some alternative buds to no avail. Good luck if you decide to buy these. Buy the Sennheiser PX 250 headphones instead. But if my non-working CXC 700 are a result of poor quality control, you may be taking a risk.

Sound good, but don't cancel noise.
I'm a show director and use Sennheiser stuff for a lot of things. I own a Sennheiser 431 microphone for my VO work and use a Sennheiser headset for com. But, these consumer model active noise cancelling ear buds, model CXC 700, are useless...except as a nice pair of normal ear buds. There is absolutely no noise cancelling, active or otherwise, with these ear buds. Although the quality of sound was very nice, as you would expect from Sennheiser, there was absolutely no difference in audio quality or noise reduction whether they were powered on or not. No change in noise reduction in any of the three noise cancelling modes. I had a pair of Audia-Technica active noise cancelling ear buds at half the price that really cancelled noise, and didn't diminish quality or volume. The only reason I didn't but another pair of those is that the power pack is cheap flimsy plastic that the pocket clip and battery door break too easily on. Just an FYI - If you don't realize, wearing noise cancelling ear wear on plane flights is scientifically proven to reduce the stress associated with air travel. It has made a huge difference in making air travel less stress ridden for me. But, find a pair of GOOD noise cancelling buds or phones. Not these.

Bought for air travel. Exceeded expectations and previous experience of two Bose over-ear and an earlier Sennheiser ear-bud product. Smallest and lightest active noise reduction system I've come across; contrary to previous experience, the buds fit comfortably and snugly into ears (and in other use weren't displaced during a couple of five-klick jogs); controls are easy to use and offer frequency- and ear-specific options (the former very effective; the latter not checked out). Recommended without reservation.

Expensive but well worth it. These truly are noise-canceling ear buds. The battery life seems shorter than I would expect, but you just need to carry a spare AAA in the case

I expected lot from Sennheiser when I coupled with iPhone 6!!! But it is not up to the mark for the value of money... Sound quality is good with nice bass n treble balanced!!! But the Volume is low !!! Yes it does noise cancellation but not suitable for Indian environment like public transports I used while flying tooo but I can say only ok... I am not able return as I bought in 10days return policy...
