I'm impressed !
I have been researching different air compressors for home use for about two weeks. I looked mostly at the oil free ones and the reviews on several brands and types were pretty mixed. I stumbled on to the MAC 700 and read many of the reviews and the only three major complaints were it's heavy, the manual is lousy, and the chances of it showing up damaged is pretty good. The actual reviews for performance were very good. I didn't find one complaint on how the compressor performed. I have several Makita tools and have always been impressed with the quality. I decided to take a chance on the damage, so I orderd my compressor on Sunday night and received it on Wednesday (Free 2 Day Shipping). When it arrived there was no damage to the box. I opened it up and the packing inside the box left a lot to be desired. I can see now how it cold get damaged. I inspected the unit and there was no physicall damage to it. Everyone was right, the manual is pretty bad. I went on You Tube and found two video's that showed you how to break it in and how a compressor actually works. You do have to be careful filling the oil. You only fill it to the middle of the sight glass. I found that once you started it, the oil level went down and I had to add just a little more. Don't add too much at a time or you will overfill it. Mine took a little over 3/4 of a bottle. The manual says to run it for a minimum of 20 minutes with the drain valve open to break it in. I figured 20 is good, so 60 would be better. I ran it for 60 minutes and then shut the drain valve and it went to maximum pressure in no time at all. I hooked up my new Framing Nailer and tested it. Worked great ! I haven't actually done any work with it yet, but will be soon. Here's my take, so far: Pluses: 1. Pretty quiet for a compressor, I was quite suprised 2. It's extremely well built, it's not cheap (that's why it's heavy) 3. Very little vibration 4. Rebuilds pressure pretty quickly Minuses: 1. Poor Manual 2. It's pretty heavy for no bigger than it is 3. I can't think of any more So far I'm impressed. I will be doing some remodeling with it in the next few weeks and will update this at that time.

Quiet Quality
Best nailing compressor I’ve ever worked with. Very very quiet. Can easily work indoors and not have your customers of remodeling jobs jump through the roof when it activates each new cycle. Only con is it’s not very light, but the beefy build quality makes it that way. Its shape and handle make it easy to transport, maybe actually easier than a fat pancake type.

An excellent compressor with only two problems
I own a Makita 2400 (the double tank one), the $120 little Senco one, a PC pancake one that came with three guns, and this one, the MAC700. I think the 700 solves many of the compressor problems and is a great compressor overall. I only have two problems with it. First, the good: It's very solidly built, well thought out, and has the excellent Makita name. I wanted a GOOD compressor that would last for years and years. I went through all the break-in procedures to the letter and went to work. Wow. It fills very fast. I mean, it cycles in maybe 10 to 14 seconds, and really much closer to 10. I never found myself having to wait even when doing upholstery with lots of shooting. You get a lot of shots and it cycles very quickly. This is really the most important thing about a compressor, and Makita scores wonderfully. Also, this thing is very quiet. It sort of hums along, a big sigh, and then peace and quiet. When I run my PC I'm astounded by the noise. The 700 is quiet indeed. You can easily have a conversation while it's running. So, the two problems: It's really heavy. It's not as bad as my 2400, which weighs a back-breaking 80 pounds. But at 52 pounds it sure isn't light. Every time I have to take it off the shelf I sigh a bit because I know it's going to be a bit rough getting it back up there. It's not terrible, mind you, but it sure isn't light. If you have a bad shoulder or arm or whatever, this could be a real deal breaker. On the other hand, if you're working just in your garage and have a long hose, you could easily just keep this on the shelf. Regardless, the weight must be considered. The other problem is the owner's manual flat stinks. It's poorly laid out and doesn't have needed information. I went through it several times trying to find oil change intervals and they're not in there. There's nothing about installing the muffler. I had to figure that out by pictures. It's wasn't hard, mind you, but it's surprising to have a manual of such poor quality with a tool of such high quality. I strongly suggest you search carefully for break-in tips as they are a must and yet hard to find in the manual. You have to do them or you're hosed. A good suggestion is to read the manual and watch some videos on youtube. There are actually some pretty good ones that give you a good walk-through. So it's heavy and the manual stinks, but aside from that it's an excellent compressor. You can't run two guns like with the 2400, and it's not so heavenly light as my little Senco (a mere 20 pounds, which after this beast feels like picking up a can of soup). It's much quieter and more capable than the 15 pound lighter PC. Overall, a super compressor, especially if you can just leave it on the shelf.

It is quieter as stated, than lots of others i've used (MC 4.5 gal). It does recover nicely with all but framing nailers when used to sheet in walls etc. I like the idea of piggy backing an air pig or such to gain a better reserve for sheeting jobs. I used about 150 ft of 3/8 hose with this for my last job and it worked great. I never really had to pause sheeting, but tit did run almost continuous. By the time i repositioned myself to nail the 2nd 3d netc sheets, it had built up enough to shut off. No trouble driving big spikes for framing, and i really love reduced noise level. Not a big deal for outside, but will be great for inside jobs. Never buy an oiless. I had considered the twin tank makita, but it would really only be needed for heavy use persons, and 2 tool running at once types/apps. The larger gate valve for draining moisture at days end..why wasn't this done before? The larger (heavier) twin tanks have their place, but my main concern was portabillity and quality. Never had problems with Makita. Had considered similar Dewalt twin tank, but glad i chose this lighter performer !

I generally like to use a tool for a year or so before rating but...... I already have the Makita Mac 2400 so the quality was predetermined , starts in cold conditions ...Yes ! is quieter Yes ! , produces adequate air volume .... Yes ! but the Mac 2400 is a little heavy to lug around , imagine if they had built that cage out of aluminum ?? but then they must remain competitive.... Since a lot of my jobs are now smaller I thought the Mac 700 would do the job and be much lighter to carry and Yes ! it is ; with the same quiet running machine and delivers plenty of air volume for those small jobs and as always Amazon delivered it promptly .

Works well, quiet and has lots of power. The only thing is that it could be a little heavy for some people to move around.

Could not be more happy with my decision to purchase this Makita MAC700 compressor, my bother has had one for years so when it was time to replace my old (and larger 15 gallon) compressor I took his advice. Extremely quiet, quick recovery time and compact size were what I liked the most about it, runs everything from my ratchet and grinders to my impact with no issues. I've had it for about a month now and used it for swapping over my winter tires,
