cute, multi-capacity bento box for work
I've had this bento box for over a year now. Overall, this bento box did exactly what I needed it to, including being cute and motivating me to make meals for myself for work. I came back to write this review because of how much I liked this bento box. Quick summary: * great size for two meals (or one) * never leaks * dishwasher/microwave safe * super cute. size/shape: Each of the two compartments can easily fit a meal. In fact it's usually not maxed out and I have more than enough food. It's nice sometimes when I just need 1 meal and it stacks, so I only need 1. So I can bring 2 meals to work or 1 meal and snacks (like fruit). A caveat is that this won't work for like, a salad or something that takes up a ton of space. For reference, i'm a 190lb human and lunch is often my biggest meal. Honestly the square shape is annoying to pack sometimes, but I also want to bring a lot of food so I don't believe there's a better solution here. On the other hand, it slides perfectly into a fridge. The "lid" doesn't actually do anything but look cute. I created a function though and I bought a camping spoon/fork (bc they're short) and they fit really well between the top compartment and the lid. leak-proof: It's never leaked. The compartments are sealed with the silicon lining and it's never come off unless I wanted it to. This does make it hard to open sometimes but I think the tradeoff is definitely worth it. Don't forget to open the air-vent when opening it (it releases the internal pressure and makes it easier to open). I've never put something as liquid as soup in it, but i've put in plenty of curry, salsa, and refried beans with no problems. strap: the strap holds everything together, which works, but it's not super secure. The silicon lining on each compartment is the thing making sure food doesn't come out. dishwasher/microwave: excellent. plastic will warp a tiny bit over time (think, years) and the compartments won't "click" into place anymore but it doesn't affect functionality.

Defeating the tupperware gnomes.
I have long held the belief that I live with a band of stealthy gnomes who conspire to steal bits and pieces of my tupperware collection. Never leaving a matching lid or container. It is unknown to me whether their covert operations are for some odd business venture or some sort of twisted pleasure. My frustration with this situation comes to a head when I am preparing my daily lunches and I am unable to find containers that will appropriately store my lunch food and fit into my lunch box "soft cooler". ENTER; Monbento MB Square Bento box. With this outstanding creation I am able to thwart the efforts of the ninja like gnomes. This box fits perfectly into my lunch box "soft cooler" with a couple reusable ice blocks, and I can contain a nice sized lunch. I pack one compartment with a salad and use the split compartment for fruit and anything else that I want to keep separate. I eat large portions of protein so I have become accustomed to packing my protein in a separate sandwich bag and then using the top of the bento box as a plate to warm my protein in the microwave. I microwave the main compartments from time to time, but never with the lid on. I clean and dry the bento box at work and band it all together for storage in my lunch box "soft cooler". Either the gnomes have not thought to check my lunch box or they are unable to remove the elastic bands that hold the kit together, but my bento box has remained intact thus defeating the gnomes on this front. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is facing a similar foe, or to anyone who would like a well made self contained option for storing food.

In Love With This Bento-style Box
I absolutely adore this! It's large enough for a grown man's needs, it's durable, and it's easy to use and clean. Size: I purchased it for my husband, who needs roughly 3500 calories per day because of the kind of work he does and his hours (10-hour days). He often skips breakfast, so eats mostly snacks along with lunch and dinner. So, as you can imagine, he eats LARGE lunches! We follow the traditional method of Japanese bentos, where you pack it as full and as tightly as you possibly can, and this is enough for my husband to have a full lunch plus a bit left to eat after he clocks out to get him by on his 39-mile drive home to have dinner. Durability: My husband is a total klutz. This man trips going up the stairs, forgets his box at work often, etc. He managed to break not one but TWO Zojirushi Mr. Bentos. This Monbento has managed to somehow survive him, so that, to me, speaks pretty highly of its durability! Plus, if you go to the Monbento website, you can replace every single part of this product without having to buy an entirely new box. Cleaning Ease: Every part of this is dishwasher safe on the top rack, plus it's got a nice, slick material that makes it easy to wipe clean because it's difficult for things to really get a good stick onto it. Now, if it wasn't obvious, this is NOT a thermal bento! You're going to need to put this in a thermal bag if you want something to stay hot or cold. I would highly, highly recommend this bento to anyone who either has big intake needs per meal or who would like the two tiers to put both lunch and dinner in, e.g. a nurse or anyone who works LONG shifts. Definitely not a lunch box for a small woman or a child unless you plan on packing very loosely, or very bulky items.

2 years and still loving my bento box
This is really a nice box. It's quite liquid proof as long as you put on the lid (haven't tried it with soup yet). I like having the flexibility of two compartments. Between the inner lid and outer lid you can fit a flexible plastic fork and napkin. I like how elegant it is in shape, makes me enjoy packing my lunch. ***2 year longevity update*** definitely worth all 5 stars. Still working great and makes a packed lunch look professional in meetings. I've had it leak on 3 times or son, all my fault for not securing the lid. Still its not an alternative to a termus, if your a soup eater but will hold leftover salad dressing in. I love it so much i'm considering getting a second, as I use only one compartment worth of lunch at a time, and have 4 compartments would let me meal prep for 4 days instead of two. Despite is say to only microwave for 5 seconds at a time, i've heated curry up to piping hot 3 minutes and haven't had an issue. The plastic is very resilient and scratch proof, although I only use wood or plastic cutlery.

Large capacity. Nice quality, but not worth the price.
I recently got several Bentos for my husband's lunch. This is the largest of the bento boxes I've tried (Umami, Monbento, Bento Heaven, Hamtmat) and on the more expensive side. I use it the least of the 4. Pros: The design is pretty. It seals well. The quality of the plastic is excellent. It comes with a small strap in case you only need one compartment. Huge -- good for a road trip or a very hungry adult. Cons: Expensive. The only bento I ordered with with no included sealable containers and utensils. Given how large the compartments are, another divider would have been very helpful.

Size matters
I reviewed a lot of the wooden base Bento boxes and I do very much like them but they are all very small with this product it has a way of condensing space while still having the most room for food for people on the American diet. The biggest reason I chose a Bento product over regular sealed containers for lunch boxes is because of how much I hate the lids and how you have to clean them there's so many crevices more food gets in and gels up I hate that about all of them this product is very simple in the way that it doesn't utilize a seal snap feature just an airtight seal press feature.

Everything I was looking for in a lunchbox
This is the best lunch container, hands down. I've gone through a lot of various ones, and then this is probably the last one I'll ever need. It fits everything I was looking for. 1. It is microwave safe (and has vented lids!), and dishwasher safe 2. It has two separate containers which is perfect for if I need to separate microwaveable foods and cold sides 3. It comes with a separate inner container to divide one of the large containers so I can keep say my coleslaw from leaking into my hummus. 4. Its compact, yet still has plenty of room for food for myself, a larger guy. 5. Its sturdy and feels like it will last a long time. I am rather picky and this really hit every item on my checklist. I know its a little overkill looking for a lunchbox that fits a checklist, but I like things that fit seamlessly into my lifestyle and habits. Also, I would highly recommend getting the Monbento silverware. They fit perfect in the upper lid, and they are super sturdy.

Best bento box I ever used
Absolutely love this bento box. I got mine in black. Wish i could splurge on every color but I just wanted the safest color that wouldn’t stain. So far it is holding up great. Had it for six months, no issues with the lids, spillage, or retaining smells. The two bands are both strong and tight, they always stay in place and no sign of losing its stretch. The finish on the outside of the box is matte (at least for the black color). I love the matte look but just a heads up for people who may expect a shiny box. Note for people thinking about the matching utensil set: The space between the lid and the top seal has enough room to fit a standard plastic spoon and fork. Unless you really want a matchy matchy set, save your money. No need for it.
