An over-the-top TM I Saga & review singing the praises of a small, simply genius mechanical device
A long time ago I discovered modern stoves/ovens equipped with electrical/digital displays, (clocks, timers, bells and whistles, Smart Technologies) emit surprisingly enormous and steady amounts of EMF (electro-magnetic frequency= very dangerous levels of exposure). So, when I had to replace my old stove I found the most old-school version I could, no bells and whistles, no frills. I was very happy to reduce my exposure to EMF, but I missed the timer function, which I readily solved with a black, non-electric/no battery/no EMF/ wind up timer. However, the pesky logistics of a tiny kitchen (sparce counter space, few cabinets and drawers) developed what I term Wandering Timer Phenomenon. Because the limited counter space is always cluttered, my timer was forever migrating between the toaster and percolator, or lost in the spices, or buried under or behind the shifting terrain of dish towels & potholders, dirty dishes, pots & pans. Always a hunt to find it. Then I remembered that years ago, I had gifted my friend this silver, magnetized non-electric timer you see here. Three years later it's still ticking away firmly attached to her refrigerator door, never lost, always accessible, off the counter. I thought then it was a wonder of simplicity. No batteries and magnetized. I purchased this magnetized version for myself to eliminate this one tiny, tedious, repetitive annoyance. Now this silver timer lives on my oven door, is always there, never wanders, and, happily, no more hunting! It keeps a very accurate hour and it's alarm has a loud burst of ringing I can hear from other rooms in the house. But it's claim to fame for me is the very powerful magnet that keeps it securely attached to my oven door, no slipping, no sliding. Esthetically its shiny, sleek silver design makes a nice sharp contrast on my shiny black oven, which I really like too. (The original, wandering black timer is still very functional. I've found it a bit of tight shelf space in close proximity to this computer and use it to monitor/ time my exposure/usage of the computer.) A little story of how small analogue devices can soften the harsh realities of digital everything! : )

Looking for a good time? You might find it here.
I've been using this mechanical timer for a while now, and I'm really happy with it. Here are some pros and cons: The good stuff: the ringer/bell is loud and clear, even from across the house, and the product feels sturdy and well-built. Two things that would make it better, in my opinion: * The bell doesn't ring loudly unless you wind up the clock for at least 55 minutes. This isn't a problem for me, but I thought I'd mention it. * Some of the numbers on the dial are starting to scratch off over time. It's not a huge issue, but if I were to nitpick, that would be something. Despite some wear and tear, the timer still works smoothly and is easy to read. Overall, I think this is a great product for anyone who needs a reliable mechanical timer.

Snazzy mechanical timer
Received it in good condition and in a very short time. Box got a little squished in transit due to it being in a big box with other items and not enough bubble wrap. Timer is sleek looking and accurate. VERY strong magnet as its on my fridge now, and I might need a crow bar to move it/ take it off the fridge! Round dial is a little slippery if you have wet hands, but more importantly, its accurate. Bell is reasonably loud. Suggestions: put ridges on the round dial + make the bell louder. Thank you Albaryak*

It's... ok. It's cheap - in all sense of the word
It's a timer. It's mechanical. It works. I guess it does what it was "designed" to do. Two glaring issues: 1) The product description is a lie. "The kitchen Timer is made of 304 stainless steel," is not true. The DISK with the numbers printed on it is metal. The dial you turn is not... it's cheap chrome plastic. My Battlestar Galactica chrome Cylon toy from 1979 is made out of stronger stuff. I'd have gladly paid a couple extra bucks for a METAL dial, and I resent being lied to by the manufacturer. This is a design issue in that the magnet built into the metal part of the timer is INSANELY strong and takes a significant amount of force to remove the timer from a metal surface. If you couple that with the cheap plastic dial you'll need to pull on to remove the timer from a metal surface... well, I'm not anticipating this thing lasting long. At least my Cylon will still be around. 2) The bell sound doesn't really carry. It's perfect if you're in the same room, or if you're in an adjacent (non-walled) room. Beyond that... meh. You'll need to pick up and carry the timer with you or you'll miss the alarm (but see other issue above...). Not sure why these "different" manufacturers can't make a mechanical timer that resembles an old-fashioned alarm clock... Box metal casing, easily relocated, weighted, etc. Why the magnets? All of these mechanical timers (heck, and even the digital ones) look like they're pumped out of the same foreign facility, albeit with slightly different cosmetics. Whoever is responsible for the design specs should be ashamed. My Cylon is unimpressed.

Great little timer, the magnetic grip is strong and the alarm is loud, what more could you ask for?

Nice and loud, no batteries, no fiddling about with buttons. What's not to like?
