Thornton's Art Supply Disposable Fine Fountain Pens, Pack of 12 (TOS-DFPAST12F)

Just received and tested these pens and they all work great. Not sure how long they will last but the initial test went well. The pens are lightweight and easy to hold. They write smoothly with a nice range of colors.The yellow and orange are a bit on the light side so not sure if they will get alot of use. That is not a criticism of this set, however, since those colors usually do not show up well, no matter what pens are used. The orange perhaps could have been a tad darker, but there is not much that can be done for the yellow. Overall, a good value and a great tool for someone staring out with fountain pens or someone like myself, who loves to write in color.

I purchased the 12 pack of assorted color, disposable pens for my daughter's travel journal. The pages of her journal are parchment so I wanted an ink that would lay down nicely and make beautiful pages to look at later. She is also an artist and sometimes uses ink in her work. I was looking for a pen that would do both. She loves fun pens (who doesn't!) but hasn't worked with them enough to have developed a strong opinion of any one kind. These pens are the perfect starting place. They flow nicely, the colors are beautiful, and they are inexpensive enough that they can really be used to experiment. Even veteran fountain pen users should keep a set of these around - great for practice. Given the color choices and the price, you just can't go wrong with theses pens!

I didn't have very high expectations from a set of fountain pens that only cost around $1.00 each. I use the Platinum Preppy fountain pens which cost around $3 each and provide an excellent writing experience in terms of reliability, feel in the hand, durability, and color saturation. that's what I'm comparing the Thornton's pens to. Most of the pens had great color. I really liked the blues, purples, and brown. The magenta was also a great color. The light green, orange, and pink were a bit faint against the white test paper. Yellow was illegible. I am not able to use that pen. All of the pens wrote immediately or within a couple of seconds when I tested them. The pens feel as cheap as they were. They're very light, but that probably will help their durability considering their method of construction. I have no comment on the capacity of the pens because it normally takes me a month to go through a cartridge of ink on my cartridge pens. The feel of the pens while writing is a bit scratchy. I know that fine pens don't glide nearly as well as Medium pens, but I use exclusively fine and extra-fine tips. These fine tips had slightly more resistance than even my extra-fine Platinum Preppy. As far as color selection and price, These pens are great and will work well for my purpose (small personalized gift bags for the office) or for someone who just wants a large selection of colors and has little experience with fountain pens. I would not recommend that anyone uses these as indicative of fountain pens have to offer as a writing experience. My primary reason for that is that these pens lack the smoothness that's one of the biggest draws for people that do a lot of writing by hand. For that, I would send someone to the Preppy 03 size variety pack. Fewer colors, but better quality. The extra drag might be advantageous for younger writers though because it offers greater control if you don't have a steady hand. I would give these pens a 5/5 for color & price, but a 2/5 for overall quality. I would average that to 4/5. I'm pleased enough with what I bought considering the price and my expectations. There's certainly room to improve in some areas of Thornton's writing supplies.

I bought these to help my daughter to improve her handwriting. She has a habit of rushing through her schoolwork and the result is illegible writing. Since you often have to write slower with a fountain pen, I thought I would give these a try. I bought these, because you can't beat the price ($12) for all these pens. I love that you get so many colors, which makes these all the more fun for my daughter. I tried them myself and and happy to report that all but two write very smoothly. The other two write well, but the ink flow is a little bit more limited than the rest of them. I am a long time user of and collector of fountain pens myself and highly recommend these to someone who wants to introduce their children to the art of writing with fountain pens or wants an inexpensive starter set.

I love fountain pens and have become a bit rotten because I cant use anything else now. I bought these pens to keep at my desk for work because they're cheap, disposable, and if somebody steals one it wont break my heart (I have a few that would break my heart if they were gone). BUT HERE'S THE THING, they are exactly what they claim to be: disposable pens. There is no consistency in the nibs; some are great and some are ridiculously scratchy. The bad ones are so scratchy, I cant even write with them and the ink hardly comes out. After weeding out the ones that were UNBEARABLE to write with, I was left with about 7. The ink itself is a little watered down compared to some of the high end ink (again DISPOSABLE), but it doesn't bleed. So the ones that actually work: they're nice to write with and are perfect to keep at my desk for notes, annotations, and scheduling. They're classified as a medium nib, but honestly its the same thickness as my Lamy Safari Fine Point; definitely wouldn't call it medium. FINAL: I would probably not buy these again, I expect the quality to be the same for all of the pens in the pack. Not get a pack where half of the pens are practically useless.

These are nice pens. yes they bleed when wet which is why I bought these pens for artwork. That said I have always loved an ink cartridge pen to write with and so they will get used for note taking etc, besides art.

These pens don’t leak. They’re a good weight for your hand then they write nicely. Some pins are goofy, but these are not. They’re very nice design and comfortable. These are good gift for those that are pen nerds or for those that are artists.

The quality of this set is to die for! Im a kind of person who uses a pen till the Ink wears out and honestly these go along way! Best money I spent! Some times if you press to hard they will leak in your fingers or kind of leave splotches on your paper! Over all I really love this pen set!
