Matiz Spicy Wild Spanish Sardines in Olive Oil and Piri Piri Pepper, 4.2 oz (4.2 Ounce (Pack of 5))

This was my intro into the world of sardines outside of the costco brand "season", which aren't very good. I was pleasantly surprised to how good these were. 3 big meaty sardines, with 2 piri piri peppers to compliment the sardines with a nice spicy but not over powering bite. They went great with salads or just eaten plain for my breakfast. The only thing that Matiz could improve upon is the can lid, as the lid is one of those types of lids that are hard to peel all the way back off w/o making a huge oily mess. Lastly, add a few more of those piri piri peppers in there.. 2 was just a tease (; 5/5 great product, will probably buy again in the future.

Easy to open can. 4 belly up, nicely sized whole Pilchard sardines that are neatly arranged. The deens' texture is on the drier side if you're comparing to Nuri, but still very enjoyable to eat by themselves. I did notice a couple scales in my cans, which may be off putting to some, but if you're comparing to Flower Moroccan sardines, Matiz have much less. The oil tasted nice, but I would not say this can is spicy by any means. I have consistently found 1 pepper in my cans, which doesn't seem to bring much heat. Not something hot sauce can't fix. In terms of value, these are good quality sardines, but for me, this would be a 'splurge' can, not a daily driver. Though Nuri is my ideal 'splurge' can, they are getting harder to find and more expensive, this might be a nice alternative. If you get this can, try heating it up with hot tap water for a little bit before opening.

These taste amazingly fresh, with the right amount of spiciness in the oil and the a good, firm texture, cleaned perfectly, and packaged exactly right. Having these ruined me for regular, mid-range, or low-priced sardines from my local grocery store. They're good as-is from the can, better atop rice or alongside ramen or with fresh garlic toast.

I used to purchase Chilli flavored sardines in the supermarket but they don't stock them anymore. They weren't exactly perfect in flavor since they seemed to tasted like tabasco sauce, which has too much vineager flavor. The chilli flavor in these tins is a better flavor of chilli. I will continue to purchase these sardines in the winter time, since I wouldn't want to buy canned fish that would sit in a hot delivery truck all day before reaching my doorstep. A good winter purchase.

This is the first time that I have tried any other sardine, outside of the supermarket variety. I have been misled for about 40 years...since childhood! These were meaty and extremely flavorful! They weren’t spicy, in terms of heat (chili peppers)...that little pepper complimented the briny sea flavor of the fish. Outstanding product...will order again.

Best sardines I’ve ever had. Expiration dates are 2024, so plenty of shelf life. I’ll order again. Highly recommend. Update: I've just placed my fourth order and, so help me, they the best sardines you will ever eat. Not only are great tasting, but they present beautifully plated with lemon slices, olives, feta cheese, tomatoes, and crusty bread. You won't be sorry.

Very good sardines, a premium buy. Heat is very mild. Not as good as Nuri brand, but Nuri brand has more heat, and is a Lot more expensive. I enjoy it with crackers and cheese with white wine. A grand snack. Sardines were nice and firm. Need a little strength to peel back the lid of the tin. The Only sardines I give a five stars rating to is Nuri but I seldom buy them the cost is prohibitive. Get these as next best.
