Pierced Ear Protectors for Jewelry Earrings

My 11 year old daughter got her ears pierced 5 months ago, and she has still been having painful issues putting her earrings back in when switching earrings or after removing her earrings for sports. While she did not have any allergic reactions, her holes would close up almost immediately, which made every time we had to put earrings through the holes again very painful. We also had problems because she has to remove her earrings for sports, and we had a very difficult time putting earrings back in after there had been nothing in her ears for an hour or more. These plastic post "protectors" are AWESOME. They are invisible when you insert them on their own, but they are hollow, so you can put any earring post through them as well. This is great because once we put them in her ears, she can easily switch any earrings she wants in and out without pain or "repiercing". She can also take her earrings out, but leave the plastic protector post in while she plays sports so that her holes don't close up. Since they are plastic, there is absolutely no concern about an allergic reaction. We plan to leave the plastic post posts in her ears indefinitely until her holes show no signs of closing up again. I HIGHLY recommend these to anyone who has recently had their ears pierced. I wish we had started using them as soon as she was able to remove the original piecing earrings.

Expensive for several miniscule flimsy plastic pieces that tore apart. They split open going over the earring posts. I only managed to fit one of my earrings with a sleeve in one ear and it was uncomfortable. Also, the sleeve doesn't let the earring sit flush with the ear so the earring ends up drooping downward. Only the metal post will fit into the plastic backing, the plastic sleeve will not. It's difficult to trim and test the backing fit without splitting the sleeve. I was hopeful in spite of the same warnings from other customers. Didn't work.

They do a good job, as I aged I developed an allergy to most earrings and these have fixed the problem.

These are cheap. They tore as soon as I put them on an earring.

This is a great concept. However, as other reviewers have stated, they are tiny and extremely fragile. The problem: If you get so much as a little tear in it, metal is exposed, and you are right back where you started. I have ultra-sensitive ears and was very hopeful that these would help me. However, I am glad they are working so well for others.

These saved me from getting rid of most of my earrings. Over the years my ears have become increasingly sensitive to various metals. Most of my earrings were impossible to wear after even 30 minutes without making my ears itch and swell, and it would take days for the reaction to resolve. Now I can put these over the offending metal and wear whatever I want. A few tips: cut them down to fit. I don’t think they’re even intended to be used full length, because that leaves no room for the earring back. They’re easy to cut with scissors and you can get just the right length for the thickness of your own ear. Also, they don’t work well with curved wires. I’ve made them work, but it almost always splits them so it’s more of a one-time use situation. Cutting them as short as possible to still cover the wire helps but not entirely. For me, a better solution for hooks is to replace them with surgical steel, which I don’t react to. And finally, they are thicker than standard posts and will stretch your piercings if that’s all you’re used to. I now wear 16 gauge studs that I leave in most of the time and have no problem with these or with my piercings closing up, but if you only use these once in a while you’ll feel the difference. The quality isn’t great; they are easy to split. But they’re still incredibly useful if you have sensitive ears.

I can wear any earrings now. Severe nickel allergy. I was getting frustrated by the inability to wear even 14k gold. Yes, what some of the other reviewers wrote was correct. It is hard to get those in, but it's a no brainer. The holes are only big enough for the standard post. These earring condoms, as tiny as they are, are still going to add some width. Didn't hurt, just took some time. They are invisible also. Bonus!

I am extremely allergic to all metals, these have made it possible for me to wear earrings. I love them! The only draw back is that they will make your earrings a little thicker (expected) and my holes are very tiny, it was a little bit of a struggle and uncomfortable to put them in, but once that was accomplished they worked great! I will be buying more!
