Awesome camera for the outdoors & underwater
After doing a bit of research on underwater P&S cameras I came across this one. I was a little hesitant as there weren't many reviews of this camera, specifically video or pictures using the camera in the environments I would (ie, pool, underwater, water park rides, etc). However, based on the very good written reviews provided here by some of the earlier adopters of this camera and a few videos on YouTube I decided to buy it and I'm so glad I did!! I wanted the camera before Memorial day so I purchased the expedited shipping and it arrived May 25th(purchased May 24th). I was super excited to get this camera in the water and I did just that on Saturday at the pool with my daughter and friends we also took it with us to Sea Worlds Aquatica Water Park on Monday and captured some awesome pictures and video. Con: Has background clicking noises while filming under water and don't know what causes it. Also the sound under water isn't to great. Another issue that I didn't like is that although I do not have to stop recording to take a picture, once the picture is taken it doesn't resume recording. Pros: I like that the camera automatically adjusts to your surroundings with lighting, darkness and capture awesome video and pictures without you having to constantly change the cameras settings. I also like having dedicated buttons for recording, on/off, video/picture playback and a button to take pictures. I also like the fact that the camera was ready to take pictures right out of the box (after charging the battery which doesn't take long). Overall this is an AWESOME camera and I love using it. I'm sure I'll update my review as I get more use out of the camera. I love the image and video quality both in and out of the water.

Great pool /outdoor/ boating/ snorkeling camera
I have about 6 other Canon cameras because I like the picture quality and the features. I bought this to replace a Canon D10 that was about 3 years old and leaking. I was VERY pleased at the new features of the D20 over the D10. This has pretty much the same features that the S95 has but not all the manual controls. It's sturdy and waterproof to 30' but you have to make sure you keep the seals clean to ensure you don't leak. Don't use anything with lint to clean the battery or digital compartment doors as the lint will make a leak if caught in the seals. I've dropped it a bunch of times and had no issues. If you take in the pool or saltwater just soak in in fresh water for about 15 mins and then dry it before opening the battery or data port. Feature and quality wise this is the top of the line waterproof camera on the market. Again, it's only rated to 30' and if I'm deeper than that I use the Canon S110 in a dive housing. The buttons and functions are all easy to use with gloves on and the logic of all the function menus are much easier than other similar cameras. The picture quality is exceptional and the battery life is about 500 pictures. The video is good but the video sound is not as it's in a waterproof case. All waterproof cameras have this problem. There is a good underwater color correction mode that works fine and it actually is a great all around camera even is you arent' around water. It's definitely a little bigger than other point and shoots but it's very sturdy.

Just Okay
I purchased this camera to take kayaking and playing in the pool with the grandchildren. We have used it a lot and I get ok photos. The grandkids get a kick of having a camera in the water. Never any problem with water getting in the camera and we have used it a lot. I have prints made for the kids and they are ok. If you are only going to use it for water areas I would recommend, but if you are looking for a point/shot that gives good quality photos I would not recommend. Recently took it on a cruise, since I did not want to carry around my heavy DSLR. Many of the photos were cloudy even though at times shot in the same spot as others that were clear. Quality of shots were not consistent. For a Canon product and the cost of the camera I was very disappointed

Leaked first time in water
I bought this camera for beach and snorkeling photos. Only used it twice on two beach vacations. The first vacation the camera was great! It takes amazing photos for a point and shoot, especially sunsets (better sunset photos than my DSL camera!). I ended up not going snorkeling on that trip, but still used the camera and was very happy with it. Fast forward a year to my next vacation. First time I took the camera into the water, it stopped working. I thought the battery was dead, but still didn't work after charging the battery. I opened the side port of the camera, where the DC in, HDMI and A/V ports are and noticed a few drops of water in there. I'm assuming that this leak caused the camera to stop working. I contacted Canon tech support and it would cost at least $179 for repairs. Too expensive for a $200 camera (because I had the camera more than a year, it was out of warranty). I tried Canons "Loyalty Program" for a refurb, but they did not have any refurbished D20 cameras available. Very disappointed, because I love this camera and angry because I spent $200 and only used it twice. If you plan on taking a camera into the water, don't buy this camera. I'm not the only one who had this problem, lots of other reviewers have said this is not a "water proof" camera.

I took a while to post this review, I wanted enough time to review this product. I am very particular about my cameras as photography is a very serious passion of mine. This is a nice point and shoot kind of camera, but it also produces extremely high quality. Let me just say that I have no complains about the Canon D20. It came along with me to a trip to Jordan and it swam along with me for hours in the Red Sea. It hasn't malfunctioned once as of yet, and also it hasn't let me down. Video footage underwater is beautiful. It's not unclear or blurry at all, instead the footage is crisp and defined. Now, for audio please don't expect studio quality or even close. Audio under water is pretty hideous, but I think that's expected because the camera captures the sound of movement in the water so you get all these loud crackling noises. Pictures underwater are very clear; the clearest I've had with an under water camera. Now if you're in the sea, then the closer you are to the subject matter, the clearer the picture will be. I can't say all of my underwater pictures were super crisp and clear, but honestly a good chunk of them were. Even the ones that were not so clear, you can still make out the subject matter. Also, let me note that some subjects were not clear in the pictures because of the distance (I didn't want to get close to creatures like the puffer fish and eels). In the swimming pool, you'll get ridiculously amazing shots. And I mean it's unbelievable how clear the pictures are under water! I was amazed. Even the video footage is very clear under water in the pool. It was just great! This camera has also fallen on the floor a few times and from good heights. There were times were I was sure it wouldn't work again, but without even hesitating a second it just turns right on! It's a very strong camera...It's not one that you would worry about breaking or damaging. Also, you don't have to worry about having it malfunction due to dirt...mine functioned perfectly fine with a ton of soft sand all over it. I mean really, this camera tags along with me everywhere. Especially days where I don't feel like taking my big old DSLR and all it's heavy lenses. If I feel like taking random snap shots, I just take my Canon D20. Has never failed me! It's a good partner in fun...Highly recommended! I'm not the only one impressed either, because every time I show my pictures to other people they are impressed too. Update - July 2014: The camera was functioning perfectly fine until I went on vacation to Cuba early June and when I put it under the sea it basically blacked out and has yet to work. Camera life is pretty much over. Strange...I thought I could pull more out of it as out of water it showed no sign of slowing down or wear.

I looked at several reviews online before I decided to go for this one...The Canon PowerShot D20 12.1 waterproof camera is great! I took tons of pics during the holidays, both inside and outside. They were all great. I love the image quality (I zoomed a bird through a window and the quality was beyond exceptional for what is expected from a digital zoom only, and through a window...) I took it with me to take some pics in the hot tub (not underwater) and left it on the side of the hot tub, wet and in the cold for a few hours. It was FINE!!!! Its the perfect camera for my active lifestyle. I recommend it strongly for you outdoor active freaks like me ;-) Can't wait to take it with me this summer for a camping/canoe trip!

Camera came in clean condition. Love the big buttons...very good for under water use. The picture quality outside of the water is great for this little guy. I love the cool features it comes with..even "fish eye!". The camera also allows you to edit your photos on the device itself. The underwater photo quality is really surprising, in a good way. I definitely recommend this camera. It's not a Go Pro Black Edition, but you absolutely do get the bang for your buck! I'm all for recommending this camera.

Used this camera underwater according to instructions and it leaked the first time! Canon says it can't be fixed. Received it in Canada, but living in Asia. Canada Canon hasn't arranged replacement. This is unacceptable as the whole point was to take underwater pictures in Asia. Please note that we have been loyal Canon users for nearly 50 years and have never had a problem.
