Totally engaging
I should have rationed my reading this book. I really didn’t want it to end. Great characters, a plot that catches you immediately, and a chance to brush up on some French words I had forgotten.

lovely quick read for fans of Mayle and Provence
Fun book and a quick read. A bit light on story and characters and a full on Hollywood ending, but a good book for the beach. We’re heading to Provence for the month and this book whet the appetite.

Brilliant comedy and intrigue
Peter Mayle is an amazing writer. This book is good fun. Ignore some of the rather dated sexist descriptions reflective of his times and enjoy the plot twists and marvelous characters.

This is a sweet book I keep reading once a year. Funny, smart and knowkedgeble writing. Well depicted characters. Great plot. Peter Mayle is at his best here.

This was amusing, but it helps to have been in France, to recognize some of the things mentioned in the story,. I found it light reading and it certainly wouldn't keep a person awake at night, but amusing...

unfinished
I really enjoyed the first 95% of this book. It’s a great summer read. But I felt there were so many loose ends at the end. It would have been nice to read how things ended up for certain characters introduced in the story.

I really liked this, could have done with out some the language, not really my style. But I did enjoy the character development and the ending, happy.
