This is a fun starter set.
Nicely detailed. I added six more cars to this set for a total of 10. The locomotive is a beast. It has no problem pulling this train, even up a slight 1 degree incline.

Great starter kit for expansion.
After buying this set, I bought an additional identical locomotive, cars, track and accessories to expand my railroad. It is now a realistic 27 car train with two back to back locos powering it. I endeavored to buy cars that were unique and highly detailed. I tried a figure eight pier system but had too many problems with uncoupled cars. N scale railroading is a little finicky in that some cars are hard to couple, and some cars uncouple for no reason. When this happens, I just turn the car around and try again. If that doesn't fix it, then I move the car to another part of the train. Eventually I found a combination that meant for a stable train. Now all is good as you can see from the video of my train set up on my desk in my office. You will have to clean the loco wheels and track periodically. The alternative is to apply NO-OX-ID A-SPECIAL to your tracks following the instructions that follow. After which you'll never have to clean your tracks again. You can buy this on eBay or Amazon for a few bucks. Here are the instructions: All contaminants such as plaster, glue, or oil, should be removed prior to No-Ox application. The steps below are all VERY important and none should be skipped. 1. Clean the loco wheels with alcohol on a rag, and clean the rolling stock wheels with blue painters tape on the track, sticky side up. 2. Use a mild abrasive such as fine sandpaper to remove all oxidation. I used fine sandpaper starting with 1000 grit, then 1500 grit and finishing with 2000 grit. Whenever the rails are treated, I treated the top as well as the inside of the top of the rails where the wheels also make contact. I also burnished the inside top of the rails with a spoon. 3. Wipe all rails with a lint-free rag and alcohol to remove any dirt and fine particles. 4. Vacuum all rails to ensure cleanliness. 5. Put very thin smears on your finger and rub it on your rails, both the top of the rails and the top inside of the rails. The total amount of NO-OX-ID “A SPECIAL” that should be applied to 500’ of N scale track is about ¼ teaspoon. If you can SEE No-Ox on rails, you are putting TOO MUCH on! DO NOT APPLY MORE! 6. Run all your locomotives, EXCEPT ONES WITH TRACTION TIRES, (no rolling stock yet) over all of your track for at least 2 hours. You may notice some wheel slippage and skipping, (DO NOT PANIC) this ensures that all wheels get treated with No-Ox and that No-Ox is applied evenly to all rail surfaces. 7. Remove all locomotives from track and wipe all rails with a clean rag to remove any excess product. Rag will be black. Don’t scrub, just rub. 8. Wait 24 hours to allow for bonding to the track. 9. Wipe rails again. Rag will also be black, but less so than in step 6. 10. For locos with traction tires, turn them upside down, connect track power so that wheels turn. Put a small dab of No-Ox on a Q-tip and apply to all wheels that DON’T have traction tires. While wheels are still turning, use a clean Q-tip to remove any excess No-Ox (I didn't do this step since I don't have locos with traction tires). 11. Run trains and forget about cleaning your track except for occasional light vacuuming.

Freight Master 60 Piece N Scale Set
Ok folks there are lots of mixed reviews but here is the skinny on mine. I ordered this to run thru my Christmas villages. The scale in relation to the village is too small, HO would be more appropriate; however, the counter space that I set up on is only 25" deep. When I set the track up the caboose kept falling off. It did not matter super slow or fast it would not go one lap around the track before it fell off. I decided to run my finger along the track connections and found several that we misaligned. I corrected these and low and behold, fast, slow, forward, backward the dang thing stays on the track every single time. My only complaint is the engine is a bit noisy at higher speeds but I guess that is to be expected. I love my train. Yes - I would buy this again!

Excellent N Scale for our Christmas village. Works great and looks the part!
Cars stay connected, system is quite and runs well.

Not for kids in my opinion
This was hard for a your boy to assemble and probably not going to get much use. The tracks assembled unevenly and the trains hoped a bit causing derailments. Pretty much wish I never purchased this train set. My boy was 11 but assembly was difficult for me as well. The tracks would not join in a way where the trains would not hop and derail. I have experience with train sets and this was my son’s first set.

Good Set with Some Frustration Points
All in all a decent set ... I have a few frustrations: 1) as mentioned in other reviews, the cars are not particularly easy to couple ... requires patience and perseverance ... once coupled, they stay connected and haven't had any issues with derailing ... this was the most frustrating part of setup 2) the engine's back wheel assembly came detached right out of the box which required some patience getting them reconnected (I was concerned that this was a fatal flaw but everything worked fine after fix) .... 3) one car had a wheel set that was loose, again requiring great care and patience getting them reconnected properly ... 4) most track pieces connected easily but a few were a little difficult and required some care in connecting ... The good news, is after getting through the issues, it turns out to be a nice set that works well ... I guess a little work on quality control and perhaps rethinking the coupling mechanics would go a long way to making this a great set ...

Good beginner train set - I put this together to run on a timer under my Christmas tree. Now on to my complaints: 1. It’s runs very noisy - the engine is loud, loud. If you have this in your TV or living room, it’s probably too loud on anything but the slowest speed 2. It can barely handle any incline at all on the lower speeds 3. My engine stopped working after a couple of weeks. I took it all apart, tightened everything up, and reassembled it. After the tune up, it was working again but I’m worried it will break. The packaging is great - make sure to keep it so you can store the set away for the season.
