Great Guidance
Great guidance. I recently came to the realization that I was burning out and also starting to lose focus on what’s important in my curriculum, I even started to overthink my progress and some studying methods weren’t working. However, this book gave me some better tips and has made me focus on what tasks and skills are important in my career instead of following a college curriculum. I’m a big fan of self learning and being your teacher is hard which is why I need another person to guide me or teach me and this book was great for that. I Loved it.

Some good advice
The book offers good advice and some (informal) references to research. Towards the end, it moves more into self-help content rather than abroad information. A quick read overall.

Purposeful Practice
I decided on this book as a way to help me with my salsa skills development. Every chapter offered ideas that I now implement. The main takeaway for me was the reminder to keep a child-like curiosity and enthusiasm, understanding that the process will we painful at times and always rewarding as long as you persist.

A very good start to figuring it out
From the big picture, this book highlights a lot of concepts on how to grow quickly. However, the real value is in the theories about how to get better. I found those interesting and the book appears to be backed by some solid research. It's a good read, worth your time, and has actionable ideas a plenty.

Inspirational, humbling yet realistic
Like many people, I have a few short inspirational quotes that I refer to during one of life's challenges. But they are just that: short. In this book, Peter explains if you really want to change your life by acquiring a new skill you need to learn HOW to learn. This was not not taught to you in school. He sites several methods and examples, making it easy to follow the experts' thinking. He gives you the road map and what you realistically need to do to keep driving ahead. Learning isn't easy, but now I see how my brain works. I plan to apply the methods in this book to learning my next vocation. I will stay curious and keep working hard, but more smartly after having read this book In all honesty, I was going to only give the book 4 stars, but then I remembered how much the brain needs repetition to remember and I got what he was doing.

Almost all the advice given by the book could be found on internet, at that is the conclusion I came to, no real strategy, although I concur or at least I already new what is said in the book. I didn't really learn something new as compared to the amount of time I dedicate to reading it. But this could work for you maybe. The choice is up to you. For me I'm interested in real advanced techniques of learning.

If you are a student put some time into learning how to learn. I went through school and university and nobody ever taught me how to learn. Time spent reading this book will be time very well spent. Highly recommended!

The author does his best to dispel the notion that skill acquisition is either granted to those with 'natural' ability or talent, or that it can be easily acquired with little effort. What he does well is to strip the process of skill acquisition back to the bone, then provide tools to enable one to achieve his or her aim. The book needs to be read several times in order to firmly grasp concepts and strategies, so if you are looking for a shortcut, you will not find it here. A really good read.
