GREAT Kit
Before this kit, I had the Alesis DM6 USB Kit. That one was nice, but after a while, it was time to upgrade. That came in the form of the DM7X. I've tried out every kit, and can say that the sounds are amazing. No, they're not the best, but this isn't a Roland or Yamaha; it's an Alesis. But even so, it sounds great. Pad quality was also a big factor in the decision to upgrade. All pads are very well built and responsive, and play great. I can get a double-stroke roll no problem with them. The cymbals are pretty good as well, and provide a great feel. The pedal set-up is sturdy and rugged, and can take a beating, and the rack is pretty heavy-duty. The sounds on the kit are great. I can make it sound like a classic rock kit with big, washy cymbals, or a driving rock kit at a concert. The options are practically endless. The percussion sounds are also pretty good. You have everything from a tambourine to a clap to a cowbell, it's all there. They even have some orchestral tympani sounds. In terms of customization to the sounds, you have pretty good control over them. You can change the pitch of every piece, including the cymbals, and as long as you don't change it more than 4 or 5 ticks. it'll still sound good. You can adjust the panning and reverb of all the individual sounds, and also the reverb and equalization of the kit overall. This is great for getting that perfect sound you want. Placing the pads exactly where you want them can be a bit of an issue at first. Everything works well as set up, but personally, I had to raise the floor tom and snare arms. That got a little tricky, but it was doable. The boom stands for the cymbals are great for this purpose, and make set up a bit less of a pain. Overall, this kit is amazing. I'm confident in saying that it's a great kit for anyone, even the drumming pros. It's well built, has great sounds, and customization options are abound. Great purchase.

Best Alesis kit for MIDI
Before I start, I would just like to say that alot of people under-estimate Alesis, so half of the reviews you see are mostly just over exaggerated and pretty bias at times. Anyways, let me just review the 3 key elements of any E kit. -Quality- The nice, rigid build of the legs and the great pads got me falling in love with the kit right when I assembled it. The sticks that come with the kit are powdered, though, So don't use them until you clean them off. The whole assembly looks very nice from afar and up close, and I feel euphoric when I play Jungle and Breakbeats on these pads, as they are very well textured and offer a nice bounce for the sticks. The kick is a small little button-like pad thing, It stays out of my way and feels better than a regular kick drum pad. -Features- The module offers many features to make the kit just, well, work. There are many practice tools in the module to keep your drumming skills 100%. The pads are all dual-zone, so have fun hitting rimshots with all your might. The cymbals all have choke, but the crashes are the only ones that choke (which is fine anyways, not many people choke a ride unless they finish playing, and who the hell chokes a hi-hat?) -Sounds- The sounds are crap, they are the the only reason why I gave this kit four stars, and also why I say it is the best Alesis kit for MIDI, because the sounds are just so... bad. I use this kit for Superior Drummer and FL Studio drumming, and let me tell you, I would of returned this kit if I didnt have those two programs. Seriously though, many of the drum hits sound very synthesized and cheap, I feel kind of bad for the module, the little dude isn't being used for anything else but MIDI. If only you could load your own samples... There you have it, a review that doesn't completely bash on this kit, or anything Alesis makes. If you are a beginner, get this great kit, it will be worth your every penny. If you are a professional studio drummer, the extra crash and tom are very confinient for all types of drumming, but PLEASE don't use the module's samples for a song, just use the MIDI functions to connect this kit to your DAW or MIDI sampler software or whatever you guys use.

Good beginner's kit.
After buying this from a local music shop, I was considerably surprised for what a good, cheap beginner kit can do. The only real upset and main gripe is that the awkward down-facing kick pedal feels: 1) Like arse. 2) Constantly adds small ghost notes after playing, just due to gravity. Maybe this is just my model, but it also doesn't come with 2 separate poles to hold the Module and Snare. So the module is tucked between the toms and the snare is in a very awkward position. This leaves the kit sounding and feeling good for a beginner. But, if you've learnt how to play on this kit, you'll develop some strange habits of where to keep things. Overall, I can say it's definitely good for the price, but do be prepared to get more disappointed as you get better and better at drumming.

Complete scam
The description mentions a 4 cymbal pack with choke ability, and a 5 double trigger drum pads. Only came with 3 cymbals (no choke). 4/5 drum pads. Only 1 drum pad had the double trigger, the other 3 were single trigger. This would make a good beginners set for $200 less. It is not sturdy or comfortable to set up if you're tall.

Pretty good overall
Pretty good overall, but one cymbal pad barely works and will have to be replaced. Ready to do that and get the two additional pads to upgrade it to the 6-piece kit.

great entry level electronic kit for an experienced acoustic player
I started looking at electronic sets because I thought it would be easier for home recording than buying a bunch of mics and only being able to demo material when nobody else is home. This one seemed to be the best value to me because of the extra cymbal and tom compared to most electronic kits which only have 2 cymbals with a hihat based on a regular 5 piece acoustic kit. Most electronic drum sets can be expanded with more pads but out of the box this was quite nice. The hihat isn't that responsive but isn't intolerable because I usually play with them open or closed and don't switch their position to often. The variance in dynamics is cool but not that easy at first to differentiate between playing loud or soft as simple it is to hit harder or lighter on acoustic drums. The bass pedal is good not great but not the worst I've ever used, it might be a good a idea to get a different bass drum pad to use your own pedal as I might do myself. Overall despite what's not to like about it I am still very satisfied with purchasing this drum set and transitioning to digital. I look forward to spending more time playing them and figuring out the rest of it's capabilities
